Well, contrary to my fears the first ultrasound was fine. We saw a little embryo and a heartbeat which was "fast" but the doctor didn't actually count. He said everything was looking good.
The only suprise was that my real dates are 6 weeks 3 days based on LMP - the exact measurement of the u/s too. I had thought I was 7 weeks but suspect I went wrong by calculating from ovulation when I ovulated on CD11 this cycle.... since implantation seemed to be later on my chart (like 10DPO) the 6wk 3 day estimate is accurate.
I wonder if this explains my lack of nausea which usually comes on at 7 weeks. The only weird thing is that I can't believe I am only 6 weeks when I feel I have been pregnant FOREVER!!!!
I can go in again in another two weeks for another reassurance u/s if I choose and my first OB appointment is 25th August. I am not sure whether I will go in two weeks.... it just is so nerve-wracking to have any appointment... I was feeling incredibly stressed about it.
Advice anyone?
Shannon

Shannon,
I'm so glad all went well for you today!!
Shannon, I'm so glad you had a great appt.!

Great news, Shannon - I'm so glad all is well in there. I know what you mean about more appts. Many times during this pg., I just wanted to hide under a rock and assume all was well. You could always make the appt. and see how you feel when it gets closer. I found myself getting nervous again in the beginning a week or so after an appt. I could relax for a little while once I saw that everything was ok, but until I could really feel movement, I would eventually build up the panic again. (Fortunately, I had at least 20 u/s this time.)
Relax and enjoy this (hopefully brief) nausea-free period!

Shannon, I am so happy your 1st u/s looked so wonderful!! What a huge relief I'm sure! :o)
I am all for the 2nd u/s. I know every wk before mine, the night before I get extremely high strung over all of it, but when that wand, or now probe, is placed on my belly and I see that little miracle I am so thankful for the u/s. If you didn't get the 2nd u/s in 2wks, you would be in the same place you are now...stressed out...with no oppurtunities to know everything is ok kwim? BUT with that being said, you could just be a very strong person and listen to your gut, and I would respect you a million times over for that!
(((Hugs)))
Congrats!! I had my 1st u/s Friday and was 6w3d. EXACT to my LMP and chart! I didn't get a heart beat count either. :( And I get to go back in 2 more weeks for another u/s! I say go for the u/s!! I'd much rather know & see that all is well then just assume it is. And we are lucky b/c a lot of dr's can't/don't give so many frequent u/s.
Good luck and H&H8!
Tiffany
