10 week appointment - okay
| Fri, 08-19-2005 - 8:43pm |
I had my 10 week appointment today. Once again things are looking okay kind of. The baby measured 9w 4days and was wriggling a lot. My OB assures me that the few days "behind" are not significant at this point and that I shouldn't worry about low fluid (the baby looked crowded on one view) because we will find pockets on the other side. Still, I have seen these pictures of babies that look like little gummi bears in a huge balloon on fluid and our little bean is always looking a bit crowded. I dunno, I just feel nervous still and I was sure it would pass.
Deep breath.
I now have to schedule the nuchal translucency scan.

Shannon,
Ok is better than not good, right?
Shannon,
This is coming from someone who saw her little one in a sack with no fluid---low fluid can be treatable.
Hi guys
Thanks... it wasn't bad, really. My OB was quite happy and said it was all fine. I just wanted to be measuring 10 wks to avoid my anxieties setting in... coupled with my idiotic online research into amniotic fluid. You know how it goes. I do drink lots of water and I bet there was more fluid if she wanted to look for it.
I will have another ultrasound in a week or two and hope it looks more reassuring (for me) then.

Shannon - my fluid levels almost doubled in a week when I started drinking as much water as possible. I just made sure I had a glass going all day long. I'm not sure if it was due to that, or just a bad measurement when they thought it was low, but I did find research that showed that hydration can help fluid levels.
Bottoms up!

Shannon ~ measuring a few days behind is perfectly normal. It depends on where exactly they put the markers for measurement, etc. Last week when I had my u/s she said I was "about 9 weeks" when on that day I was really 8w3d. I thought "great - the baby now measures ahead, when all along the baby has measured EXACTLY to my dates. Then on Friday when I had it done again, she had me to the day. Same tech both times, I just think you can't put a lot of stock into a few days difference. It it was over a week then I would be concerned but a few days is perfectly OK.
I don't know how they can tell about the fluid. I've never been told anything about this. Probably just as well or I'd worry too! I know early on, the baby looked crowded and when I saw other u/s photo's, other women's babies looked like they had a lot more room than my baby. Now my baby doesn't look so crowded and my baby was sleeping as the u/s was being done so I only got to see it move his/her legs for one brief moment.
Hopefully next u/s will bring you some peace that all is well.

Shannon,
Don't worry too much. With my son (who is now 8 months old), I had low amniotic fluid off and on throughout my whole pregnancy. He was born 3 weeks early and perfect. Doc just told me to drink lots of water and it helped maintain my fluid. Because of my clotting disorder, I had a small placenta which didn't produce a lot of fluid. Everything turned out great. So don't worry.

Thanks ladies
I needed a bit of encouragement.
I have banned myself from all online research and am not even reading expecting club stuff. I was getting way too stressed. I am really hoping all is well at next ultrasound for nuchal translucency. It will be in a week or so.
Don't expect to see me around as much for a week or so while I try and get myself into a better frame of mind :)
Hugs to all who have appointments this week.
