need help deciding about US...or not

OK, here is my situation....my parents went a way for a weeks vacation, and they left the keys to the brand new porsche....oops, wrong situation (Fresh Prince fans??). seriously though, i don't know what to do about getting a US???

last time i was preg, i spotted at 7 weeks, got a US, saw the HB, everything in the world was wonderful. 2 weeks later my symptoms completely disapear, i see a spot, get a US, no HB, world comes crashing down. so now i don't know if i want an early US or not.

on the pro side, i am a basketcase with this pregnancy and would love to know that there is a baby in there for real.

but on the con side, i know now that a HB at 7 weeks does not a healthy pregnancy make. and in some respects i was more devistated b/c i had seen the HB and the baby.

my first appt with my new OB is on Thursday, which by some twist of fate, is my original EDD. i will be like 6 weeks 2 days. should i ask for a US for the next week, or maybe one at 9 weeks?????

i really don't know what to do.

Many (((HUGS))) Stephanie! It stinks you are going thru this dilemna. For me...the more u/s's the better (and I've had 6 with this bean!). Though when you see the hb you won't feel 100% out of the danger zone yet, at least you get to see that beautiful hb and know that your chances of m/c have dwindled. If you don't get an early u/s will you be more stressed out in the 1st tri? Do what you can to be the least stressed...yeah right...i know how hard that is. Ok, so do what will give you the MOST peace of mind. (((HUGS))) and sticky baby vibes!

For me personally, I'd go for the u/s. Maybe your doc will even give you a few extra ones to ease your worries.

I had one during my first visit at 6.5 weeks, again at 7.5 weeks (spotting episode), 9.5 weeks (this one was my "official" measuring u/s) and again last Friday at 10.5 weeks b/c I still cannot pick up hb on doppler. The u/s have really, REALLY eased my fears for the most part.

Either way, Stephanie, you will worry -- but the u/s does decrease the worrying a little bit!

Good luck whatever you decide.

I also would go for it. I agree w/ Dawn and say wait till 8 weeks. That's when I had my first with this babe and we could see the baby, hb and yolk sac and all looked well. It helped to ease some fears as I approached my milestone date to have at least seen the baby once!

Stephanie,
I had an u/s at 6 weeks 1 day. To tell you the truth it didn't make me feel that much better. It was affirming that yes I was pregnant and yes there was a heartbeat but at that early of the game I didn't get too excited. But, if I had to do it all over I would still get the early u/s.

Stephanie,

Like you, I had an u/s with my angel at 6w, saw the hb, then lost him at 13w with no warning.

all- thank you for your thoughts on this. i will see what the DR recommends on thursday and then request a US around 8 weeks. that sounds like a good compromise and only about 2 weeks away!!!

i love this board. i could never get this advice on the april 06 ED.....

Hugs to you, Steph. Personally, I would go with the u/s. Heck, I've had four already in this pregnancy for just the same reasons you mentioned - I was a basketcase and didn't fully believe I was pg until I saw our blob on the screen.

For peace of mind, if nothing else, I think it would do you well. Keep us posted on what you decide.

Stephanie-

I used to be an advocate for early u/s (I have had plenty of them) but they were extremely stressful for me. I have come to hate the statement "come back next week and hopefully we'll see more". So, with this pregnancy I have an u/s scheduled for 7 wks. That's two weeks later than I normally go for them. Hopefully we'll be able to see the heartbeat!
If you can pinpoint excatly when you ovulated (like I can) and are pretty sure of your dates...then maybe you should have an early one. Otherwise, waiting until 7-8 weeks seems like your best option. Hope you make the right decision for you! Good Luck!
