WHOO HOO - another u/s today!!!

Today officially marks my 12 weeks. Last week when talking to the nurse at my OB's office she said I could come by and they can see if they can find the hb on doppler since I've been having so much trouble with it. So this a.m. I called to schedule that for later this week and they asked if I could come today at 3:45!! I totally unexpected that quick so I just got back.

I was the only one in the office -- not a single patient today. You would think after having a long, holiday weekend, they'd be swamped. So nurse took me back and went to find the doppler, then comes back and goes, "oh, we'll just send you for an u/s - -this early, we're probably not going to find it on doppler then you'll just worry!!" Fortunately, I brought along my video b/c last time they told me always bring it -- you never know when you get an u/s! So I was prepared!

Then the dr. met me in the hall and said not to worry -- even he doesn't even attempt to find hb with the dopplers till at least 12 weeks and they have more expensive models, etc. I told him it's just that EVERYONE on the internet can find theirs or has found theirs at 8, 9, 10 weeks and I'm the ONLY one who can't!! He was super cool and said they are there anytime I have a concern and I shouldn't worry but come in so they can check me out!

Anyway, I got my u/s. Kind of hard this time b/c I'm inbetween a vaginal u/s not being very clear anymore b/c baby is quite big; but not too far along for the tummy u/s. And of course baby was sound asleep -- wouldn't even budge!! Video is hard to make out b/c baby looked so big in there but she said it's the resolution with the vaginal u/s at 12 weeks.

HR was 156, all was well. I go back for my regular OB visit in 2 weeks.

Tracy,

They do vaginal u/s until about 12 weeks. They told me yesterday i'm at the inbetween point now b/c baby is kind of large for a vaginal to get good resolution; but too little for tummy sono.

My 8 week u/s is the best one -- baby is very defined; you can see little arm buds/leg buds and clearly identify baby versus blob! Hopefully they'll give you an u/s at your appt.

thank you so much Tiffany....... now next question...... is DH in the room when they do vaginal ultrasound? I think he might pass out, lol.

sorry I am asking so much and turning your post into questions, but like I said.... I am ignorant to it all since this will be my first :)

Vaginal u/s are not bad at all! They don't hurt and at first it's kind of embarassing. They will have you remove everything from waist down and give you the great paper cover-up! You sit at the very edge of the table like when getting a pap and put your legs in the stir ups and they will either have you insert the wand or they will. After that, waaala, you will see your little butter bean! You are covered the entire time.

Unless your DH has his head stuck inbetween your legs, he isn't going to see anything! lol
Usually the tech/dr. doesn't even look down there -- they just put the wand in a little bit and its no big deal.

When I was pg with my DD 16 years ago (yikes!!) I was 20 and very modest. I was like, "nobody's going to be in the room with me when I deliver!!" Well let me just say that as time goes on in your pregnancy, you won't care who's in the room!! lol
And oh my gosh, when your in delivery, modesty gets tossed right out the window.
