A cyst on your ovary in early pregnancy is a GOOD thing. In healthy pregnancies, a cyst will form on the ovary that you ovulated from. This cyst produces progesterone and even HCG (despite what you've been told about HCG only being made after implantation). It's called the "CL" cyst which stands for corpus luteum. After the placenta begins to form and starts taking over HCG and progesterone production, the cyst will decrease in size until it's gone, usually by week 10 of pregnancy. I don't know why Dr's don't tell women this, I know on my EC board, we had so many frantic posts where women were told of a cyst on their ovary and they thought it was something bad. I mean, cysts are usually bad, lol, but not in this case! I just wanted to make sure everyone knows this so you don't get upset if they see on during an early u/s. I wish someone had told me 9 years ago when they saw one during my first u/s with DD, but I'm not sure how much techs know about the in's and out's of what's going on, they mostly measure things and take pics for the dr, they're not really into the diagnosing. And Drs don't usually feel like spending 15 minutes explaining how the hormones are produced and such, so that just leaves us to worry and fret on our own. If you'd like more info, check out corpus luteum on Google, I think Wikapedia (sp?) probably has some decent info on them.
I hope this helps someone feel a little better!!
