US update & questions

I posted this in the roll call yesterday, but thought I should post it here, as well. Had an okay ultrasound appointment yesterday - got to see the heartbeat and got some printed pictures of the tiny thing. My concern is that the tech (who didn't say much at all, other than things look good) told me that the baby was measuring 6w3d. By my calculations, I should have been 5 days ahead of that at least (and, at the most, 9 days). If I really was 6w3d yesterday, that would mean that I conceived 7 days after the last time we had sex (and I got my BFP a week after that).

Anyway, that was the long way to get to my next question, which is: has anyone else had a similar experience? I'm just concerned that things aren't going quite right. Could the tech have measured wrong (he only did a transabdominal US and skipped the vaginal since he said he got all he need from the abdominal), or is it really likely that I conceived a week after sex and then got a positive test a week after conception?

I'll be talking to my OB about all this on Wednesday, but in the mean time I'm kind of worried. Would love input from others!

Thanks,
Crystal

Crystal,

At my first u/s I was measuring a day behind that ended up turning into 4 days behind. When they are that little they have different growth spurts and most docs will tell you not to worry - At your next u/s you'll be so surprised at how much bigger your little bean has gotten and you might even find that the baby is ahead of schedule that time. Ours was and all is well...

Hugs!!

Thanks, that's good to know! I want to believe everything is okay, especially because I had very little symptoms last time and I am full of them this time, but it's still difficult to believe. The first ultrasound I had last pregnancy was done at 6w3d (I was bleeding), but they found a heartbeat and then the baby passed away sometime around the 8th week. I'm just terrified it will happen again.

Do you think the OB will change my due date based on the measurements? Or perhaps she also will just assume that the baby's growth will catch up to the dates?

I never tempted, but my baby girl was measuring 6 days behind at my 6w6d ultrasound. She did some catching up and is now actually 1 week ahead! I was convinced of my lmp so the Dr. decided not to change my due date. Early u/s can be up to a week off...sure your little one will do some catching up! Just as an FYI...have you had your progesterone checked? Mine was "dangerously low" and I was told I'd lose my babe initially. They started me on progesterone supplements and I seriously credit them with the "catching up" because about 1 week after I started them she caught up 9 days worth in 6 days!

They drew blood yesterday right after the ultrasound, so hopefully they are checking my progesterone (my order said "prenatal panel"). I'll ask my OB about it. Thank you for the suggestion!

FYI again...I didn't have bw with my 1st angel, or Alyssa. I just didn't know it existed then. Amazing what you learn being a PAL! I learned about it when I got pg with my 2nd angel last fall. Anyhow, I know you have to ask for the progesterone...or at least at my clinic I did. With my 2nd angel all they tested was my hcg. I asked for a "quantitive blood test" with this baby girl.

(((HUGS))) and many sticky baby vibes!
