Well I finally had my first appointment today. It went great!! It wasn't with my usual doctor, and I think that made the appt. even better. First she congratulated us, and then said how sorry she was about our recent loss. Then she asked how it went with the genetics counselor...puzzled looks from DH and I. She seemed a bit bothered by our reactions. We told her that we hadn't met with anyone or talked to anyone since the miscarriage, again she was not happy. She pulled my chart and showed us the pathology report and some other testing that had been completed we were told none of this was going to be performed. We were shocked, we didn't think that we were going to ever know what happened. It turns out that our baby had cystic hygroma and possibly Truner Syndrome or Trisomy 18 or 21. She wants us to see a genetics counselor to find out more about what happened and why and to learn about any testing that is available to us. We were happy to find out all of this information, but upset that we weren't told sooner. After we discussed the miscarriage and all of our other fears, questions, etc. she began the exam. She said my uterus is exactly where it should be for 11 weeks and then she brought out the dreded doppler. She warned us in advance that it might be too soon to hear the HB and not to be alarmed if we didn't, she found it in 2 seconds it was the most wonderful sound. Our little bean's heart is going about 170 bpm. Then we walked over to have our ultrasound and I had both internal and external. Baby is measuring perfectly and even danced a little for us, think the Ally McBeal baby. All in all the appointment went great, we're a little nervous about meeting with the genetics counselor but we're feeling pretty good about this little one.

Oh yeah, my big ultrasound got scheduled for January 24th, can't wait.

Wow, what a lot for you to digest your first appointment! That's great that you have all that information now so that you can get the proper tests if you choose to. Sounds like this one is going just fine, though. Congrats!

Hey Erica!!

I'm so happy for you! and your little bean!! I'm so glad things went well and even if it was just now, I'm glad you have some answers as to what happened and that they are actually sending you to the genetic counselor, maybe you'll now get to ask all the questions you

Wow, what a lot of info you got at your appointment, Erica! So happy that the doctor shared with you the info in your chart. I'm glad you got some answers - and I hope that the genetic testing, should you decide to go that route, shows a nicely growing, healthy baby in there.
