First appointment today :)

I had my first appointment with the midwife today. It was the same lady who saw me after my miscarriage, and I really like her. She was really sweet and understanding that I was anxious and nervous. She said that with 2 good ultrasounds last week and everything looking good on exam, she thinks the baby is and will be healthy. She went over the ultrasound results with me again and did an internal exam. She said my uterus felt just right for my dates and that she didn't see any blood at all when she checked my cervix. Oh, and she said I had a "good pelvis." I asked if she meant that it was normal sized and not too small, and she said she would call it a large pelvis. This struck me as funny, but I guess it's good news!

She is recommending the combined screening test over the AFP test. I want to have it done just because it means getting an ultrasound at around 12 weeks. So, I'll set that up. She says my official due date is 11/25 based on the measurements from the first ultrasound, but I'm sticking with 11/22 based on my ovulation date and the second ultrasound. I know it doesn't really matter, but I don't want to go back 3 days! :)

At first she said my next appointment would be 6 weeks from now. I asked if I could come in for a Doppler check before that, and she said that since I was nervous she would have me come in for a checkup in 3 weeks (May 2). I was happy about that. Then, a week or two after that we will go in for the combined screening ultrasound, and my next appointment after that is 6/14. That seems like so long between appointments, but I guess they know what they are doing!

Oh, and I talked to her about the Doppler rental. She said she would rather see me just relax and stop worrying and to just come in as often as I need it for Doppler checks. She said that it wouldn't hurt anything for me to have it except for the fact that I might get worried if I couldn't find the heartbeat. I still haven't decided for sure, but she didn't mind filling out the prescription form for me if I do want it.

Well, I didn't mean for this to turn into a novel. In summary, although we couldn't exactly check on the baby, everything looks good so far and I feel good about the upcoming plan :)

I'm glad you had a great appointment. It sounds almost exactly like mine with the same discussions about testing and everything. My dr would also typically wait longer between appoitments but she is bringing me back in three weeks so we can do an ultrasound. It does seem like a lifetime between appointments, doesn't it? These next three weeks are going to go SO SLOWLY!!!
