Pregnant after m/c and B4 AF

Hi little Mamas!
I had a very early m/c on March 7th after which I was told my hormones went down "nicely." 20 days or so I got a positive on an OPK and my DH and I went for it. 2 weeks or so later AF was late..I waited until I was one week late and took an EPT--POSITIVE! Then my general practitioner ordered a blood test for me and it was POSITIVE, too! I called the next business day to make my first appt. and they said that they would need to call me back and schedule it with me since it would probably need to involve a vaginal ultrasound since my last cycle ended in m/c. The next day I got a call from my ob/gyn's nurse and she said "Wow, I'm really at a loss..So you think you're pregnant?" And I said that the blood test said that I was. Then she said ", Well, you couldn't be TOO far along, then.." And then she said we needed to rule out that there was anything residual from the miscarriage. That was when I began to have anxiety. My body is doing fine..sore bbs, some cramps here and there..My general practitioner called me personally to say my test was positive, that it was great, and that my ob/gyn would be happy. And then the nurse completely rains on my parade..like she had never seen anything like me! Anyone had an experience like this??????

Thank you--I'm trying to put the whole phone conversation out of my head and trust the other information. Good luck to you, too!

Alice,

Congratulations!!! I got pregnant before AF right after an early m/c too. I'm 20 weeks and feeling the baby kick right now! The nurse I talked to was confused, too, but they had done followup bloodwork on me after the m/c until the HCG was down to zero, so she agreed that I was pregnant again. They were more vigilant with the bloodwork and ultrasound after my positive test - I had a vaginal one too! - which really helped me. I think if it was residual your OPKs would have been positive all along. Don't worry about it; you're pregnant! Yay!

H&H 9 months!

Thankfully my doctor and her staff were wonderful with me. My first pg ended with a d&c so DH and I were cautious about trying again too soon. Our 2nd pg ended in an early m/c. My doctor was out of town and her partner said that since it was so early (5wks) to just treat it like a regular period and there shouldn't be any problems. He didn't say anything about having to wait like we did after the d&c so we started trying again and got pg before I ever got AF.

It's true, part of the reason they do an early u/s is to make sure that it's not retained products from the previous m/c causing the hormones to go up. But, it is also to help determine how far along you are since your ovulation date could be off becuase of the previous m/c. Either way, the nurse should have been more sensitive about it. My doctor and her nurse simply said that they wanted to make sure that "everything was progressing nicely". Why scare or worry someone for no reason?

I am so sorry that you have to deal with a nurse like that. Please take heart in the fact this is just a routine thing for a pg right after a m/c. You are not the only one to get pg so quickly and don't let her make you feel bad about it. It sounds like everything is going well with this pg for you so don't let her scare you. On the bright side, you get to have an extra u/s which is always great! Our first one was so early that all you could see was a little tiny black spot that was the beginning of the sac. But even that made us feel better about the whole thing. Sending hugs and warm wishes your way,

Stephanie

Thanks gals. The ob/gyn nurse called and said to come in and get a quantitative blood test this time to find out my levels since they can't do a vaginal ultrasound if I'm not far enough along for it. I asked what the likelihood of the hormones from the m/c affecting me right now were and she said that since my hormones dropped so low after during the miscarriage, that it was very unlikely that that was the case now..that made me feel better to hear. I need to remember the facts..a urine test, a blood test, sore bbs, and no AF tell me that I'm pregnant..the rest of the stuff is going to work itself out.
I guess it really is brow-raising to get pregnant this soon, huh? I'm just going to concentrate on keeping my little jelly bean as safe as I can.
