Super appointment news

Well, I think it's super anyway. I have my next appointment with the midwife next Tuesday, when I should hear the heartbeat for the first time since we saw the ultrasound, but I've been having a hard time with the wait. This Sunday would have been my EDD, and I just would like to know for sure before then that my baby is OK. So... the midwife told me that I could come in just for a heartbeat check before that if I needed to, and I just called and got an appointment for Thursday at 10:45! In less than 2 days I should be able to hear our little one!
I was feeling so excited about being 10 weeks tomorrow and wanted to go out with DH to celebrate, but then I thought I shouldn't because we couldn't really know that things were OK. Now we can hopefully go celebrate on Thursday instead!
Call me crazy for being so excited about this when I had the appointment next Tuesday, but I am so happy to shorten the wait!
Yay!

Any day you don't have to wait is super! That's great that you got your appt moved up, or I guess just made another one? Anyway, I can't wait to hear an update from you about how awesome that little hb sounds!!!
Can I ask you a question? Why did you decide to go with a midwife? I don't know much about them and am perfectly happy with my OB so I'm not looking to change to one or anything but I'm just curious. What's the difference between them and an OB? Can they all do the same stuff?
This will be an additional appointment. I think they have a nurse just for appointments like these, so it will just be a quickie to hear the heartbeat.
The practice I go to has OBs and midwives, and the first appointment I had scheduled with my first pregnancy just happened to be with this midwife. That appointment unfortunately became my post-miscarriage appointment, and she was really sweet to me then and I really liked her. Since I had already seen her before, I just made my first appointment this time with her again. Again, she was very nice and understanding, so I think I will try to see her for most of my appointments. As far as I can tell, because they are in the same practice, the OBs and midwives do exactly the same things. I think if there is any kind of problem, then you see a doctor, but midwives can handle everything with a normal pregnancy. I don't know who will actually deliver my baby because I will just get whoever is on call that day, maybe a midwife or maybe a doctor.
I have heard that midwives spend more time with patients and are sometimes a little more compassionate. Just comparing this one to my gynecologist (who could be my OB), that seems to be the case, but it could just be their different personalities. I do think I'll see my doctor for at least one appointment just because I haven't seen her since just before we were TTC.

I second your "Yay!" Andi! A few days *do* make a difference, and I especially understand since your EDD is this weekend. Three cheers for your midwife for being understanding... and know that I'll be thinking about you this weekend, too.
