Well, today's ultrasound went really well. It was pretty lengthy, so we had lots of time to see our little baby. I can't even call it a bean anymore because it has actual baby parts now :)
The main purpose of this ultrasound was for the nuchal translucency test. As soon as she started, the baby was lying still in a perfect position for her to get those measurements she needed. She told us right then that the measurements were small, which was good news. Then she just kind of looked around at everything. My placenta is posterior, and she said everything with my uterus looked normal. Today the baby measured at 12W4D, so 3 days ahead. We saw the hands and feet and hemispheres of the brain and stomach and bladder and heart. It was really amazing how detailed it was. We could see the vertebrae of the spine and the tiny ribs. We even saw its little mouth open and close once. The tech was great and pointed out all kinds of things and really took a lot of time with us.
A few minutes into the study, the baby got hyped up :) It started out lying on its back, but then it rolled over on its tummy and then completly back over to its back, and then it rolled side to side so that its head was facing the other direction. Then, it just kinda jerked around all over. It was so funny because at one point, Matt, who was being pretty quiet through the whole thing, said, "Is it normal for it be moving around so much? I thought it would just lounge there." The tech said it was definitely normal and good.
Afterwards, we saw another lady who went over the screening results based on the ultrasound and blood test I had done, and our risk of Down's and trisomy 18/13 dropped to 1:10,000. She said that's the lowest risk possible, so of course we were happy about that!
All in all, it was really an awesome experience :)
