OK, I need some serious help figuring out this trimester/week thing. I am officially 11 weeks and six days, but ivillage pregnancy calendar says I'm in the 12th week this week. When I check Saturdays day, it says I'm in the second trimester now that I've begun my 13th week. Yet when I consult other web pages, they don't consider me in the 2ndtri until the following Saturday or Sunday. WTH?!

Anyway, welcome Kathy and Julie! Hopefully starting a new chat every week will make it a little less scary to jump in. Before you guys came, we were up in the 4 or 500 posts!

Crystal - how do you find the time to brush your teeth 4x a day? I am jealous because I'm lucky if I have the time and energy to do it twice, pg or not.

I'm torn on the whole meats and cheeses thing because my dr. forbid me to eat any deli meats or hot dogs or charred meat (not a problem since I'm a veggie), but she also forbid any soft cheeses. This has been a hard one for me since I usually eat feta and blue cheeses by the ton! I'm sure since I've never gotten sick from them in all those years that it would be fine, but I'm still too nervous to do it. I wish the "experts" could agree on these things already!

Well, here's to a long happy weekend for everyone! I'm stuck going to the annual Indy 500 party in Indianopolis where I get to watch DH's friends get drunk and act like rednecks, so boy am I excited. (note sarcasm) This little bean cannot go anywhere because I already have big plans for the two of us to escape some place fun next Memorial Day. :)

Belly rubs for all,
Cass

Hi Cassi,

I can help you figure out the dates thingy...if you are 11 weeks 6 days, then you ARE in your 12th week.

Cass....

My family says the same thing. I'm always brushing my teeth. It's just something I've always done.

Thanks Carolyn and Tara! I thought I understood the week thing as you both explained it, but when I kept seeing different answers on the 2ndTri I thought maybe I was missing something. I guess it's just explained by the difference in opinion on when the 1st ends.

How many people do you know who lost theirs at 12 weeks? I keep seeing more and more stories on this board of people losing pg really late like 11, 12, 13 weeks. I also read that the 7th, 11th and 12th weeks carry the highest chance for loss, yet other books say your chances of m/c drop to 5% during weeks 10-12 and 3% afterward. So WTH is the answer?! I guess I just wish there was a magic fairy who could come down and say "Now is the time you can relax."

I promised my family this was the end of the 1st trimester and that I would relax if I could find the hb this weekend, but now I'm reconsidering! I guess I'll just have to fake it for another week or two.

Thanks Carolyn for the update on listeriosis as well. I agree that it doesn't make sense with pasteurization, so maybe I will eat the stuff I buy at the store that is clearly labeled pasteurized. I really miss my feta!

Crystal - your dentist must adore you! :)

Best,
Cass

I have one more question--how do you guys remove your tickers for when you go to TTCAM?

Only have a quick sec to check in...

Cass - Most of the people I know who have m/c lost them fairly early, like before 6 weeks. I found out about my missed m/c at 13w4d. The baby had stopped developing around 11 weeks. I had just heard the heartbeat at 10 weeks. Unfortunately, I have a long way to go before I can relax. I was so relieved after I heard the h/b, because I heard your risk drops from 20-25% to 5% once you've heard the h/b. I was the unfortunate 5%. My situation was not the norm, so you should be fine! I know we always worry as PALs, but the odds really are in our favor. You just have to continue to think positive. The stress is a bigger risk to the baby than anything!

Kath - I put my pg ticker at the bottom of my siggy. That way, when I post on TTCAM, I just delete that last line. Way easier!
