Nervous to try doppler

So, I just received an email that my babybeat doppler will be delivered today. The problem is, I am suddenly terrified of it arriving - because I shall have to try and USE IT!

I know I should hear something by now (11.5 weeks!) and so what if I don't? I have been feeling so much better lately that I can't help but worry. I mean, I still feel nauseous but I can always find something pretty normal to eat (no more days of noodles and miso soup) and I haven't been gagging as much about food.

I wonder if I should just head off to the doctors office tomorrow and let THEM try and find the hb... then do it at home afterwards if its all okay. That way, if they don't find it I can have an u/s right away. Still, it will be tempting to try. Frightening to try. Ugh.

Oh Shannon,

I can only imagine the fear that you have in your heart right now. I am so very sorry that you are so scared.

I am thinking about you.

First of all, I'm so glad you're feeling better and able to eat something other than soup & noodles!

If your doctor's office wouldn't mind helping you find it tomorrow, then I think you should do that. I got my Doppler a few days after I had heard the heartbeat at my doctor's appointment, and I think that helped a lot. I sort of knew where to look based on what the midwife did, and also I figured if I couldn't find it right away I could blame it on user error and not get scared.

If you do decide to use it on your own, we can all try to talk you through it to help you find the heartbeat if you have trouble :)

Oh my. So, of course I HAD to try (you know, Tara!) At first I couldn't find anything except my own heartbeat and was starting to freak out but then i caught a higher rate a few times (like 153 and 169) and heard a clip-clop rate but couldn't keep it. The longest I heard it for was about 6 seconds then I couldn't find it again.

So, I guess its in there! But this thing is a lot harder to use than I expected - well, more subtle. I had expected it to be either there or not by now.. not so elusive.

Anyway, I will go in to the docs tomorrow anyway and see if they have as much trouble. Perhaps i will get a bonus u/s.

Shannon! That is great! I told you you'd find it! Your bean is definitely alive & kicking in there!!

Don't worry, it takes some time to get used to that Doppler. I know w/ DS, it took me a few tries until I could confidently keep that Doppler on the baby consistently! When they get bigger, they actually kick out at it, I think it's the static. Evan used to move away from it!

Great news!!!

I agree with Tara, you should take it to your Dr's office and see where they position it. I remember when I got mine I was as scared as you probably are right now and I spent hours trying to find the hb. I would go for about 30 min and then rest, then try again... I couldn't find it for two days and I was already preparing for the worst!... My DH asked to let him try and after two days, I let him try, thinking he would have no clue and it would be a waste of time and he found it on the first try!!!! Then we started putting attention more on where the Dr. would place it exactly and it became easier and easier... So you can try, but don't assume the worse (I know easier said than done!), or you can wait for your Dr. so she/he can show you exactly where.

You also said you got it from Baby beat and it comes with a CD and instructions, which really do help, let us know what you do =o) We're keeping our fingers crossed!!!

Shannon,

You're so brave to go ahead and try the doppler. I'm glad you found it! My doctor actually told us to bring ours in and he'd show us how to use it. It was really helpful - we knew where our bean was from watching him, and he gave us tips on how to manuever it for the days when the bean was hiding, etc.

GL at the doctor, I hope you get a surprise u/s, too! :)
