Anterior Placenta?

I had an OB appt yesterday. The nurse tried the dopplar, no go. so she sent me for a quickie US for HB. (the sonographer had told me last week to tell the nurse NOT to try the dopplar, but I couldn't resist. He said that it was going to be too early and I would be at his door for an US. I guess he was right! He pretended to me mad at me, it was all good fun.) anyway I asked him where my placenta was and he said it was anterior. But that it was not a big deal. I know that, but does having an anterior placenta make it harder for the dopplar to work?

I'm sure she'll be on later and reply to this, but I know that Kate has an anterior placenta and can tell you more about it. I don't remember if she mentioned the Doppler, but I know it took longer for her to be able to feel movement because of it. It would make sense that it might interfere with the Doppler too. I'm glad you were able to get that ultrasound so you didn't have to worry :)

Hey Stephanie
I had a hell of a time finding the heartbeat before 13 weeks and I remember seeing "placenta anterior" on the sonographer report from my nuchal. So that may be a factor!

Stephanie,

I'm so glad to see you here! And I'm really happy that you're doing so well.

I have an anterior placenta, and they told me it would make it harder to find the hb with a doppler. I found it pretty easily after 12 weeks with a doppler I rented, but a midwife gave me a heart attack at 11 weeks when she couldn't find it (they did an ultrasound to

Yes, because the sound has to travel through the placenta.

harmph. all good information, thank you, but i am not pleased that it will take longer to feel the baby kick. like i will need that extra stress. i will get monthly ultrasounds from the 2nd trimester on anyway though, so that should help. Since i have had 3 D&Cs the DRs have put me on "cervial surviellance" so I go in every 2 weeks for alternating internal exams and ultrasounds. i dont mind. but i don't really like the idea that something could go wrong with my cervix...

thank you all for the great info though!
