For you, and anyone else here that doesn't know...a cerclage is/are stitches placed around/through the cervix to help make it stronger. I lost my precious baby boy, Austin, in February due to an incompetent cervix, which basically means it opened up way too soon (18 weeks gestation) and, unfortunatly, my membranes ruptured and pretty much its too late to save the baby when that happens. Now that I am pregnant again, my doctor will place the cerclage at about 14 weeks gestation (almost 2 weeks away!!) to help hold the baby in. If you, or anyone else, has any questions about IC or cerclages, just let me know. I am happy to help educate on this subject. I, unfortunatly, didn't know anything about it, until it happened to me.
My NT scan and next appointment is only a week away...woohoo!! While I am looking forward to it, I am half-dreading it because of all the cerclage talk that will be going on. That whole thing still has me so nervous. I'm not a good patient as it is, and I've never had stitched before, let alone in such an, um, sensitive area. I just pray God gives me the strength and courage to get through it, if for nothing else then to save my precious baby.
Sandi~ Congrats on entering the 2T! AND about your super-duper u/s...that is very exciting!!
Amy~ Congrats on spreading the good news to your family! My sister has the same ability as your MIL, she was right on too, with my m/c, she was the only one who said it was a boy, and she was right! This time she's telling me its a girl, so we'll just have to see about that! I hope your DH spread the word on his side soon!
Just thought I'd share a cerclage story with a happy ending. A friend of mine miscarried and lost twins. She then went on to get pregnant with her daughter. She had cerclage and had a healthy baby girl. She went on the have a little boy a few years later. I know it sounds scary, but keep your goal in mind and I know you will be okay. Keeping you in my thoughts.
Thanks for the answer. I'm so sorry this had to happen to you. :( What an awful thing this is. But I'm glad they have a way to "fix" it for this baby.
But now I know what you are talking about. A friend of mine had the same thing done. She just called it "the stitch". And they said she couldn't lift heavy things, walk up stairs a lot and just generally had to take it easy for the rest of the pregnancy. Do you have to do this too?
I hope all goes well with the procedure and the rest of the pg. My friend now has 2 beautiful boys and had "the stitch" with both of them. Good luck and keep us posted on how things go.
Thank you so much for the replies! The further I get in this journey, the more I realize that its really not that uncommon. I really appreciate that you both shared some success stories with me. I am fortunate enough to also know a woman, in real life, that has the same condition and a very healthy little girl now. Still, it is nerve-wracking when its happening to you.
I will have to be taking it easy during my pregnancy, even now as I've had some spotting issues already. But, after "the stitch" (which is what I usually call it too) I will probably be on some form of bedrest right after, and then it will all depend on how my cervix responds to the extra support. If there is any opening or funneling, I will probably be on some kind of bedrest through out with bi-weekly check-ups. I will know more when the time comes. And believe me, I will be keeping everyone here updated and probably bored with all my cervical measurements and what not, LOL. I am at least glad that I have a place to talk about all that stuff.
While being a PAL is hard, I am glad I'm not the only one and the we all have each other to lean on!
Ann, I feel you on the exhaustion! Yesterday was my first day back to work, and as soon as I got home, I took like a 2-hour nap! I could have slept all night, but the phone rang.
Told some co-workers yesterday. It went pretty well. Now I'm just trying to figure out when to tell the boss people. Not looking forward to that one. Maybe I'll try to wait another month. Ha ha - if they don't figure it out by then, as u/s pics will be going up at my desk to remind me to NOT move tables, desks, etc on my own.
Best friend gets back from Iraq in less than a month! WOOOHOOO!! This is tour #4 for him, and I hate that he's missed so much of his little girl's life so far. The AF needs to give him a break and let him stay home. All he could tell me is that he hates sand and hates beaches now.
Made it to 2T today (officially)! So I guess it's time to move on. But I hope y'all won't mind me still checking in from time to time here!
I was so sick and tired yesterday, I don't know what came over me. I had been feeling pretty good up until then. Oh well! I am feeling much better today, though...I guess a good night's sleep makes all the difference.
Ann~ I am glad your trip went well and you didn't get sick on the plane! Also, glad to hear that your boss took the news well; that has to be a load off your mind!
Natasha~ Congrats on entering the 2T!! I think a lot of us are going to be moving on soon...time goes so fast, sometimes!
I am glad your trip was quick and throwup less Ann.
Natasha I cant believe you are in the 2t already, That seemed to fly by!
Melissa I am glad you are feeling better.
As for me I have had up until now about an appt a week and I have nothing this week. The NT scan is next Friday so I feel like I should have something else to validate this pregnancy KWIM? Of course I still have to run kids around to eye doc appt and swimming lessons and the like but it isnt a me appt at all. Sigh I may have to clean the house or something.
