this is perplexing!

hi ladies,
thank you all for the warm welcome above!

i just had my third beta this morning and my HCG has doubled again! my progesterone remains low but i've switched around my dosage. initially i took 3 suppositories a day (1 every 8 hrs or so), then went to 2 suppositories at the same time in the AM and another 2 together at bedtime. my prog made a nice jump when i only waited 8 hrs in between doses but didn't do much w/the 12 hr wait. i thought it might be possible that the effect wears off sooner or later so asked the nurse if i can do the 4 suppositories a day, but insert 1 every 5-6 hrs. she agreed so we're trying it out and hoping for the best.

here's the kicker--my #s are low...way low. but doubling the way they should be!
1st beta(12DPO): 6 HCG 2.1 progesterone (yikes!)
2nd beta(14DPO): 11.1 HCG 8.5 progesterone
3rd beta(16DPO): 26.6 HCG 8.8 progesterone

have you ever heard of such low #s?! i don't know what to think..on one hand i'm really pleased at the progress and the fact they are doubling (though gotta get that prog up), on the other hand a bit worried that they started off so low. a couple of websites give a very wide range that would put me in the low end but normal. i've only spoke w/the nurses not the actual doc but they get their instructions from the doc and they seem to think that this pregnancy has a fighting chance. i'm scheduled for another bloodwork and sonogram on tuesday. not quite sure what they'll see on a sonogram at less then 5 wks, but i guess it can't hurt??

so that's my wacky story for now...i just keep telling my bean to hang on! thank you to everyone...much sticky babydust to all!

thanks for the encouragement, girls!

i feel a little more hopeful w/each passing day! i have an appt this afternoon w/ an OB who specializes in recurrent m/c. nothing against my RE, but this dr does a lot of extra testing for blood clotting, NK cells and insulin resistance that not all doctors will do. he's considered a bit of a miracle worker here in new york city and it takes months to get an appt w/him. my original appt was for october 25th but b/c i am now pregnant he is fitting me in for a short one today so i can become an established patient and get the bloodwork underway. my sister (who had 4 m/c prior to her 2 full term healthy pregnancies) used him and now has 2 beautiful children so i'm a believer!

everyone seems to be confused why my RE would order an u/s for tomorrow at only a little over 4 weeks! my only possible explanation is that he wants to rule out ectopic. i have read low #s can be an indication of that, but i don't think they double if that's the case. i'm a little concerned but trying put that thought out of my mind! do you think they would do a transvaginal u/s or the over-the-stomach kind? if it's transvaginal, can that injure my bean??! ack..i'm such a neurotic case!

thanks again,
stef

Hi Stef :)

How many DPO are you??? Sometimes if you aren't very far along your HCG will be low.

hi alisha!
i remember reading about your painful ectopic loss on the TTC and TTCAM boards. i'm so glad to read about your healthy pregnancy today!

nobody has mentioned any concern about ectopic to me, but i have to admit-the idea is in the back of my head. i guess i'm just worried about the low HCG #s. i think i am either 16 or 17 DPO today. i was charting but i did a trigger shot/IUI this cycle and my temps were a bit wacky and didn't rise until about 3-4 days after the trigger, but a progesterone test at 4DPIUI showed i ovulated. did you have low HCG betas w/the ectopic? did the #s double? i don't feel any actual pain although i do have occasional pinches and stretching feelings. i'm hoping that's normal and is the result of my uterus growing!

thanks for your help and many SBV to you as well!

Alicia,

At what I thought was 18 or 19 DPO, my level was 91. I just went in for my first u/s on Friday at what we thought was 6.5 weeks, and all was great! Saw the HB, saw the fetal pole, etc. Only difference is I was only 5w, 4d along according to the u/s. I potentially ovulated/conceived/implanted later than we thought, but all is wonderful! Your numbers are awfully close to what mine must have been and I just got a call from the OB saying they were very happy w/ my u/s.

All my best!
Beth

Hi Stef~

They didn't do the Beta's right away with the Etopic PG, they only did them when I started spotting.
