I've heard they feel like a butterfly. Are there any other explinations? I have had a couple episodes of a bubbling feeling way down low where the baby is. But I just keep telling myself it must be gas, because I'm only 12 weeks. Am I crazy or is it probably gas?

Lisa,

Mine have always felt like a little throbbing heart beat! I have heard that someone can feel movement pretty early, but 12weeks would be really early.

At first, they do feel a lot like gas. LIke when you can feel gas moving through your intestines. They also feel like a fluttering down low. I always felt them at the cervix first and it kind of tickled, like someone was kind of tickling you, really light, from the inside.

The earliest I felt movement was with my son (^i^)

I'd say it's a bit early...but not impossible.

I have had 3 separate sensations, starting around 14 1/2 weeks and becoming more obvious between 16-18 weeks. First I felt a tapping/spasm feeling where in the same place for 20 seconds or so it felt like I had a muscle twitch. Then I felt the equiv. of a finger stroking my belly in a small area from the inside out(butterflies?). Finally, I also have felt s stomach rumble feeling but no actual hunger rumble. The twitching was the first thing I noticed though, and now it is mostly twitching or tapping sensations, just stronger. You usually can feel movement between 16-20 weeks for the first time, maybe earlire if you know what you are looking for. By 16-18 weeks I was pretty sure that I havd been feeling the baby longer, but at 14 weeks you just aren't sure until you feel it on a more regular basis to look back and know. Hope that helped!

With my first pregnancy, I started feeling little vibrations around 14-16 weeks. No one believed me that it was the baby, though, they kept telling me it was gas. But I know what my gas feels like, and it wasn't like that. A little later it was a stronger butterfly feeling sensation, and then around 20 weeks, I think, I felt more pronounced kicking. But since that pregnancy didn't go to term, I'm not sure how that kicking compares to the kicking that women feel in the third trimester. I'm 12 weeks now, and I can't wait to start feeling those little vibrations again :)

So I don't know, I guess it's probably hard to say what you are feeling at 12 weeks, but it could be possible that you are feeling something related to the baby if you are very in tune with your body, since the baby is indeed moving at this stage.
