How important is movement early on......

Hi girls
Just wondering if any of you know how important seeing the baby move on ultrasound is in early pregnancy...my lovely SIL who is also pg and 7days farther along than me, insisted her baby moved all over the place at her first u/s. My friend scanned me again today, and after poking and prodding, we finally saw movement. I didn't know if this was common early on or not. Just curious, all seemed to be great today, heart rate was 167 and baby measured 8wk 5days. Thanks
Keli

Hi Keli...
As long as the heart rate looked good, then I wouldn't worry about movement yet.
I think this is perfectly normal at this point. Because of my history, I had quite a few ultrasounds with my son (who is a perfectly healthy 18 month old). Sometimes he was moving all over the place, and sometimes he didn't move AT ALL. At my 11 week NT scan, the tech poked and prodded and finally made me cough to get him to wake up and move so she could get a better view. I was told that the fetus sleeps a lot and there are times when they're active and times when they're not. A heartrate of 167 sounds great!
Don't you just love competitive SIL??
Congrats on a good ultrasound!!

We didn't see our bean moving until 10 weeks. I have read that spontaneous movement starts at 9 weeks. You have nothing to worry about -- it will be squiggling very soon!!

Hi Keli,
Wow I had the same question after my NT scan appt - our bean barely moved at all - only when the tech 'poked' around and pressed on me, then he or she kinda jumped.
Hey Keli
I'm sure this is perfectly normal as per previous posts. My SIL was exactly the same during my first pregnancy doing all sorts of comparisons that freaked me out and none were valid. Hang in, once these little critters get going there is no stopping the movement...take it from someone who'd like this little one to be still so I could get some sleep...all worth it though!

Keli-
during my 8w u/s (i was 8w4d) my Little Babe only twiched and it was once or twice, we may not have even seen it if we blinked!! By the following week, he was more active (but i wouldnt say "bouncing all around").
Im sure everything is fine. I know how hard these weeks are.
A good piece of advice i heard early on was "the days turn to weeks and then the weeks turn to months". Ive been taking one day at a time and every now and then i stop and look and cant believe im in the 13th week! Believe me, im still petrified and i keep saying " a few more weeks and ill feel better..." Ive been saying that since i found out LOL!
All my best!
