I would go ahead. I think it's only a problem if you're the one getting color or a perm. And really, most of the stuff today is non-toxic anyway. Just ask them to sit you in a chair some distance away from the fumes.

I agree with the PP - I'd be more concerned about the smells making you nauseous than doing any harm to the baby.

I don't think it'll be harmful. When I got married my hair stylist was 5 months pg and she was still dying hair and all of that stuff. It depends on the quality of the salon and how well it's ventilated.

Nicole -
As usual, I agree with all the pp's. The worst part for me was that the smell made me a bit nauseous, but that wasn't until later on. I got my hair colored when I was pg with DD, because oddly enough, as soon as I got pg I got a tiny streak of white in the middle of my head!!! Rather than look like a skunk, I had it "taken care of"....LOL

My midwife said it was just fine. So as long as you are comfortable doing so....treat yourself!!! :)

I'm a hairstylist so I'm around all those great smelling chemicals a lot. It's not harmful so feel free to get your hair cut or colored or whatever. They haven't proven anything that the chemicals are harmful during pregnancy. The smells don't really bother me anymore because I'm so used to it. I would be more worried about the nail salons because those chemicals are so strong. We don't have any nail techs in our salon so I didn't have to worry about ventilation for that. Have fun!

I wouldn't worry about it too much. I had my hair dyed in my 1T, because my midwife said it would be fine, because the chemicals they use no are not as bad as they used to be. But if you are still worried I would suggest finding a salon who has a separate area for their hair dying stations. The salon I go to has the cutting stations on the other side of the building. HTH!

Agree with pp. My doc also told me getting your hair colored is fine so I am sure just being around the chemicals for a haircut would be fine. Enjoy your haircut:)

It's very okay. It may make your feel nauseas :P but thats about it. I WORKED every day at a Salon as an office manager while pregnant with my now 6yo DS and my doctor said it was fine. It is a very, very, very small possible risk when you have consistent contact but otherwise harmless.
