Worried about appointment
| Sat, 04-21-2007 - 7:20pm |
Hey everyone. I scheduled my 1st appointment with my doctor. I am not sure I am very comfortable with this doctors office. At first they told me they don’t do visits until I’m 10-12 weeks along. Doesn't that seem kind of late to have your 1st appointment. I thought the 1st 3 months were the most important. Well I told them about my previous molar pregnant. & they scheduled me for this Wednesday...I'll still be 7weeks...almost 8. I am very nervous. The last time I went for my 1st appointment I found out about the molar. Also I am very nervous because I don't know what to expect. Well lets hope that this 1st appointment goes well!!
Thanks
Thanks

It is totally normal to be scared about the first apt, especially if thats the apt you found out about your loss last time. About the late apt, I think thats just the way some dr's do it - my doc was the same way, first apt wasn't until 8-10 wks. I too got it pumped up to about 7 wks b/c I was so anxious. Do you feel comfortable with your doc besides that? If so I'd say stick with him for now, but if you don't then definitely find a new doc! You need a doc you feel comfortable with and trust.
I hope all goes well at your apt, and can't wait for an update.
Hugs,
Amanda
Hi there. I think a lot of drs must do the 1st appt at 10-12wks thing because I've heard that a lot. I guess you could always tell them that you have no idea when you conceived so they would get you in right away and do an US to date the pregnancy, but since you've got an early appt anyway then that isn't necessary. I absolutely LOVE my dr (she's actually a midwife) and plan on having her deliver all of my future kids! I would say that if you aren't comfortable with your doc and think there may be some thing better out there, definetely ask around to your friends and get some recommendations to a new one now before you get real far into the pregnancy...because you WILL get real far into this pregnancy! :)
Oh sweetie,
We all understand your fears about the first appointment. Most doctors offices will not see a patient till after 8 weeks and beyond. I do not agree with this practice, but that is what most places do. On this board it seems that most women see the doctor very early and that is because we have all had losses. I am sending you positive thoughts for your appointment and please update when you can!
At first I was upset that I wouldn't have my first appt until 9 weeks. But, on the other hand, it gave me so much less to obsess over. I didn't have HCG numbers to compute 24/7. I didn't have obscure ultrasounds that didn't show much information.
I thought about lying and saying I was spotting and cramping to see if I could get an early ultrasound. But, I'm glad I waited. Because my doc's office wasn't too concerned about this pregnancy, I felt like I didn't have to be either. I have my first ultrasound next week. DH and I are excited. And we're not worrying about everything that could go wrong. We wouldn't have any power over it anyway.
I really think waiting for an appointment was the right choice for us.
