first doctors appointment

Well today was my first doctors appointment.
She was really nice and I feel a bit reassured. She says that one loss does not increase the risk in subsequent pregnancies and so our chances of this one working out are still 90% (same as if we'd had no prior problems). So, thats pretty good odds I think.
I have a 'viability' ultrasound in one week (wed) so hopefully that will go well and we will feel more reassured again. And because I have long cycles she had adjusted my edd to 19th Jan - one of best friends birthdays so that is nice.
She gave me form for bloodwork but didn't seem in a hurry so I think I will do it on the day of the ultrasound since I will be at the hospital then anyway.
So, we're being optimistic that all will be ok (although we still haven't been able to bring ourselves to tell anyone much).
Also I think we're opting NOT to do down testing as our risk is only 1 in 800 and risk of false positive in screen is up to 3% which would lead to amnio which has miscarriage risk of 1%, which I don't think I'm prepared to take. What are others doing with this choice??
Hope everyone else is doing well.
Jo.

Hey girl! Congrats on the good first appointment. We didn't do the AFP testing either, for the reasons you described. Keep us posted on the u/s next week!
Love,
Jenn
I'm glad you have a nice dr. who reassured you.
Congrats on a great appt, Jo.
I didn't do AFP either.

Jo,
Glad you had a good appointment and felt comfortable with your dr.! I will have the non-invasive testing done, which for me, includes an ultrascreen u/s and blood test at 12 weeks, since I am 40, but I will not rush to do anything else unless truly warranted.

Hi Jo.
Thankyou so much for all your replies - its so nice to be able to 'talk' to people to understand (and so great (and reassuring) to see those of you that are 'ahead' in your pregnancies doing well).
We are looking forward to our u/s next week and will update you all then.
Thanks and best wishes,
Jo.
