NT scan today!

We had our NT scan this morning and it went wonderfully! I am 12 weeks 4 days, baby is right on track and was very cooperative! The detail of the scan was amazing-we had a regular us and a 4D which I wasn't expecting and had never had before with DD or DS. We could see fingers and toes and baby was moving everywhere! Everything looks good, they saw no reason for concern and no indication of any increased likelyhood of chromosomal problems or heart problems. I had blood drawn too, so we won't know numbers for a week or so, but I am not really concerned, we mostly did the us just to ease our minds again and know baby is doing well! We think we know the gender-they were 90% sure, but I think we will wait to share until we are positive at the next scan. We got a DVD of the visit and a CD of the pictures too-if I knew how I would attach! Hope everyone is doing well!!

Hello Jen,

I'm so glad the scan went so well. Your so lucky that you got a 4D scan. I've never had one but I hope I can with this pregnancy. I love hearing such good news!!

Jen,

That's awesome! I'm so glad everything looked good, and how cool that you got to have a 4D scan! Looking forward to hearing the gender, too. :-)

Congrats Jen! We found out that Jaime was a boy at our NT scan too (12w 3d). And it never changed. ;) And I hope that the blood results come back just as good!

Jen,

I was wondering if you could tell me if your insurance paid for the NT scan? I was debating on whether or not to have one, and opted not since I figured insurance wouldn't cover it. Guess I should call United Healthcare and find out for sure. My OB said most ins. don't cover it. (I'm 10 wks 1 day right now) If it didn't cover it, would you mind telling me how much out of pocket you had to pay for the scan? I may be reconsidering. Thanks so much!

Hi Meagan,

Yes insurance did cover the scan, and I have United Healthcare too. My OBs office said more and more plans are covering it and that mine did. I would definitely check with them, as I'm not sure if coverage with different types of plans varies or not. I did see a fees list in the office for self-pay and I think it was between $600-900 without insurance (sorry I can't remember exactly but I do remember it was more than 500). It was so worth it and I would recommend definitely having it done, especially if insurance will cover it. We really did it just to have another chance to see the baby. I had an us at the OBs office at 7 weeks and another last week at 11 1/2 weeks as he couldn't find the hb with doppler, but this one was much longer and much more detailed. Plus I think seeing the baby around that 12 week mark just sets the mind at ease a bit! I hope you find your insurance does cover it and you are able to have one done in the next few weeks!

Hi Jen,

Congratulations on a great scan! It must have been amazing to see the 4D ultrasound photos, and how exciting that you just might know the gender already! Was it really obvious? Just wondering, b/c DH and I are hoping NOT to find out, and don't know if we will have to censor this U/S in order to keep it a secret!

Hi Wendy,

Good for you for waiting to be surprised, I kind of wish I could. I'm too much of a planner and couldn't stand it if other knew (OB etc...) and I didn't! It was not that obvious on the regular us, but was on the 4D. The tech did ask us if we were planning to find out, and I know friends who have been told to look away etc... But they gave us a DVD and CD of the whole thing, so that might be dangerous if they do the same for you. I think you're 20 week us will be the one to really make sure they know you don't want to know, because it is much more obvious at that one! Godd luck!
