progesterone level - TERRIFIED

All of you ladies are so helpful. I am in a panic. The doctor called to day with my 2nd reading. The first HCG was 385 and the second was 892. I was so thrilled. Then he told me that my progesterone went from 17.4 down to a 14. He continued by telling me to come in on Monday for another test and that if the progesterone fell below 12 then he would start me on pills. Well, I was so happy for the big increase in HCG that all I said was okay. Now I am panicking! I read that the level should be 16 at least. I want this pg to work out so badly. Would being on progesterone hurt if I didn't need it? Couldn't we just take the precaution? Can I do anything at home to help? Lastly, I am also scared that my doc is going to start to hate me because I call all the time to check my numbers or ask for test. I think we have talked 5 X in the last 10 days. What would you do? HELP HELP HELP!

Extra progesterone can never hurt.

Hang in there hon. Yes, your number did go down. But I think you'll find a few ladies on this board who've had successful pregnancies with lower prog. levels. I think it's a good idea that the doc wants to keep an eye on it. If it gets close to too low, I'm sure he'll do something about it. And if it makes you feel more comfortable, call and ask if you can start on it now, just for your piece of mind. It can't hurt to ask, right? And if he gets upset with you calling, then psssshht on him - get a new doc for not being understanding. KUP.

Ellen, it's hard to think of it this way, but remember, he works for you.

Okay I called. He is going to go ahead and put me on progesterone supplements. So in one hand I feel a little bit better. It will still be a long weekend. I go back Monday for a 3rd draw and I am already impatient about hearing the results which I won't get until Tues. If it were possible I think I would go in daily for blood draws. At least until I hear the heartbeat. That had such a calming effect when we had DS. In fact, had I not gotten a baby beat Doppler I would have had a heart attack before I got out of the 1T w/ him. The doctor then told me that I need to just be cautious. He went on to say that there are some doc that believe that if the prog is dropping then it is either too late to do anything whether that leads to a mc or not. He said we just don't know if giving progesterone really helps at all or if it has just a placebo effect. He said he is not sure but it can't hurt. It was like he was trying to warn me that this isn't the end all solution, which I already know. I just think that if I waited til next week and I did mc then I would feel terrible. Whereas at the least I have tried to be proactive about it. If there are any ladies out there who have had a lower prog and had healthy pg. would you let me know your story? Thank you all for your kind words and thoughts. I'll definitely keep you all updated.

I just read your post to me. Wow we are in the same boat alright. I am so scared. When she told me my prog was dropping I totally lost it on the phone and started crying. I cant believe your doc. told you that falling prog. already means its too late. I wonder if that is true. In fact I think we should post something to that effect on the board...what do you think? Like anybody have dropping prog. and got put on suppositories a little late and still went on to have a good pg?

By the way you can stick your tongue out at me and say MY HCGS ARE HIGHER THAN YOURS NAANNANANA!!! ;-)

What dpo were you with your first and second draw?

I cant believe we have to wait the whole weekend ...I HATE this waiting game..what a nightmare.

SBV's coming your way.

Sarah,
I was at 11dpo and 13dpo. So I am thrilled with those numbers!

I would love to know of ladies that have gone through anything similar! Please oh please tell me at least one that made it!

Now to stick up for my doc a little: He wasn't really saying it was too late but yet he was warning me that "some" docs believe it is too late. Not sure how I feel about it. At the same time this doc delivered my son by c-section at the last possible minute b/c he knew I wanted it the "other" way. So he has fought for me before. (we lost because ds tried to come out head first and was NEVER going to fit that way)
It is going to be a long mong week ahead of us. P & PT!
