10 wk 3 day appt.- no hb on doppler?

I went for my fist *real* appt yesterday. I talked with the midwife for a long time and I felt really comfortable so I'll definitely be sticking with them for this baby. (The OB at the practice delivered DD via c-section three yrs ago.)
Then she did exam and said all looked OK, uterus was OK size-wise, etc. But she could not find baby's heartbeat on doppler. She mentioned that it might be a "tad early" but I'm worried anyway. I'm fat so I'm hoping that all that cushioning was a hindrance and they'll easily find it next time, which isn't for another four weeks.
At the 7 wk u/s we saw baby's heartbeat so I'm trying to find reassurance in that, but I could use some talking to in that this is OK and nothing to freak out about.

Hi, Bammer,
My bff had an appt. at 11wks and they couldn't get the hb on the doppler.
They couldn't get a hb on doppler with DS until I was past 12 weeks. They tried at 10 weeks and couldn't but my next appt I heard that beautiful sound. Excess weight around the middle could cause the Doppler to not pick up the hb as soon as on another person, so don't worry about it! That was probably why it didn't pick it up at 10 wks for me too!
Glad you liked the midwife - I see a mw also and just adore her! They seem to spend a lot more time and really listen to you, compared to the drs.
As for the inability to find a hb right now, I wouldn't worry too much. My dr (I was still seeing the dr in the begining) wouldn't even attempt the doppler until I was past 12 weeks because I was so high-strung that he was afraid I'd FREAK OUT if he wasn't able to find it that early! He knew me way too well! LOL!!! But he did agree to let me have an US to calm my nerves and that helped so much. If you're really concerned about it, call your midwife on Monday morning and tell her that you are really stressed out and just beg shamelessly for an US. (((I ended up having NINE USs when I was pregnant with Scarlett because I had no shame! LOL!))) I think it is a valid reason as far as the insurance should be concerned, and you'd get some really cool photos of your little bean! :)
My SIL was at her 13 week appt. and they couldn't find a hb on doppler, but did an u/s and found it. They just said the baby was really low and not facing in the right direction. Plus, she has a tilted uterus. Can they do an u/s for you? If you're really worried, you can always go to the er this weekend and they can do u/s. Maybe you can call your OB on Monday and ask to come in again because you are worried. I really am sure everything is okay, but I know that you are worried sick. Any PAL mommy would be. Please keep us updated.
HUGS,
Meagan
I know that had to be so scary. If your placenta is towards the front of the uterus instead of the back, it can block things and you may not be able to hear the hb due to that. Let us know how your next visit goes. Make sure you get back in there at 12 weeks though so you don't have to wait another month to hear your babys heartbeat!

Hi-
I was 10w and change when my doc first tried to find the HB w/the doppler, and he couldn't.
