Ah, Jenny, that is a bummer that you have to give up something you love because it makes you feel icky.

I'm not a big fan of milk anyway, and I'm a vegetarian, so I am always label-reading to make sure I get enough calcium. Cheese is definitely a big help for me because I *love* cheese. But I have to watch it, because cheese has a lot of fat and cholesterol, neither of which you want in big amounts. I just found a calcium-enriched OJ that is really good, and 35% RDA for calcium, which is about what milk has. It's Minute Maid Kids (oddly enough), and it's really tasty. I figure between that once or twice a day, my cheese addiction, and a bit of spinach and broccoli (both of which I love), I'm getting enough.

Hoping you find something to fill the milk void soon!

Shawn

I know how you feel. I love milk and drink it 2-3 times a day. With my last two pregnancies i had trouble with it for the first 12 weeks, so it was all temporary. Hopefully yours is too and you can enjoy it again in about a month.

It looks like Tara gave you some very good advice, but I wanted to know if it is the taste, or all together dairy? If it is the taste I could only drink milk by making it chocolate milk!!!

i have been wanting to start a post about calcium! first off, can you get lactose free milk? that is what i have been drinking for years, when i drank milk at all. also, i believe goats milk doesnt have lactose, and its supposed to be better for you. as for soy milk, yes, you should try the plain flavor--the vanilla can be nasty. if you have it in something (like cereal) its not so bad... if you can still eat yogurt and cheese, those are also good sources of calcium (most books and docs say you should try have 4 servings a day of calcium, if you can, in addition to your vitamins and sups).

another thing--can you use powdered milk? i just discovered it with my pg and its not so bad. theres a company called organic valley that makes org powerdered milk, and its pretty decent. i mix it in calcium-enriched juice and theres two calc servings all in one! i also put plain yogurt in my daily smoothies (a good way to get your fruits in!) and thats another way to have a calc serving.

i am sorry about the milk thing. i find the whole calcium issue to be a pain in the booty, but since its pretty good for us, i hope you can find some creative ways to eat it!

I also wanted to add (sorry if someone already did) that some prenatals have extra calcium in them.

Try rice milk. I've never had soy milk but I have had chocolate rice milk and I found it fairly tolerable. TUMs are commonly used as a calcium supplement, which is convenient since I know *I* can't survive pregnancy without them!

Jenny I know how much you love hot chocolate...we bought calcium fortified hot chocolate mix a few days ago! Just another reason to drink the sweet treat... oh and my OB told me to try the Viactive Calcium chews in the 1T. THey aren't bad at all, kind of like eating a tootsie roll or piece of caramel. Gl and I hope this goes away for you soon. Many of my 1T aversions did...like lettuce. Lettuce was a very bad thing for a while....loving my salads once again now though!

Hi Jenny!

How about OJ (most of them have calcium added)?

i just remembered something! i dont think that soy milk has much calcium in it. rice milk might not either, unless it is fortified. and btw, oj only has a good amount in it if it is fortified, as well (you have to buy the ones that say they are fortified). i know that tums are also a good source, but i also hope you can have at least a few servings each day of actual, natural calcium like milk, cheese, yogurt or ice cream (as opposed to suppliments, vitamins and fortified products).

best of luck, hon!
