The short version: Everything looks very, very good. YAY!
Now, for the much longer version ...
The first part of the scan lasted only 15 mins., which was unexpected. And, the tech wasn't much of a talker at ALL and her responses to my questions left us worried that something was amiss.
The tech left and we were sitting there waiting for 15 mins. when the door finally opened and in came the tech and our doctor. Thankfully, the doctor was the one who cared for me when I was transferred to the bigger hospital to be with Ryan, so the appointment began to turn around, and he was MUCH more communicative than the tech and told us that what was checked looked good, but he wanted to do a more thorough look at the heart.
Gummy Bear was not very cooperative and rather lazy, unfortunately. But, I guess the doc had the magic touch, because suddenly s/he moved around so the doc could get the views he was looking for.
When he found the heart, he spent a lot of time getting just the right view so he could see for certain that there were two formed ventricles, which there were. (Ryan only had one.) Then he looked at the aortic arch, since Ryan's was almost pinched closed and blood flow was interrupted, and again that looked good. The only view he wasn't able to get was of the ductal arch, but with all the good the doctor saw, he doubted that there would be problem with that. All the other areas of the heart looked great, too, with no visible anomalies, but that'll be confirmed at tomorrow's appointment.
Anatomically, Gummy has everything where it should be, thank goodness. There were no soft markers for Downs, so my risk dropped even further, to 1:500, which means no amnio for me. YAY! Gummy is measuring slightly ahead, which was also good to hear, and my placenta has started to migrate north, so I should be feeling movement any time now.
The doctor was going to bring in one of the pediatric cardiologists, but then changed his mind after I told him that we'd be seeing them for a fetal echo tomorrow. My doc is forwarding all the U/S heart views to the heart clinic; that way, the pediatric cardiologist will already have a heads-up for our appt. on Tuesday and know what he wants to look at in more detail.
And ... for the news you really want to hear ...

Gummy is more than likely a GIRL bear. (I can't believe I was right!) Again, "she" wasn't the most cooperative (is this a sign of things to come?) and the shot that the doc got wasn't the best, but both he and the tech said we should put our money on Gummy being a girl. =D He zoomed WAY in on the pelvic area and I had him show me why he was inclined to think girl. I couldn't tell what I was looking at, so I'll have to bow to his better judgment. ;)
Mike and I thanked the doctor, both for our U/S appointment and for that day in my hospital room 2+ years ago, for being such a positive influence on us, because without his encouragement, I don't know that we would be where we are. He's a wonderful doctor and I'm so glad we got to see him again, with good news to share finally.
I can't believe we're halfway through AND everything is going so well. Again, YAY! =)
