Hi Tiffany,

Congrats on your little boy! I'm sorry that this appointment didn't go as smoothly as one would hope. It's so worrisome for us PAL gals when things aren't 100% perfect. But your doctor said that it's a little early anyways and it sounds like he doesn't think you should worry. Hmm...maybe this is why my perinatologist doesn't do these scans before 20 weeks. Anyways, your doctor just wants to make 100% sure - you know how doctors are. Even though you're 37, you still have over 99% chance of having a normal baby, so don't let that get you down.

Also, I really wouldn't worry that the baby was 3 days off from where it was before. From what I've read, growth rates can vary significantly from baby to baby after the 1st trimester. This is when their individual differences start to show up.

I'm surprised the doctor didn't come in while you were getting your scan. What about an amnio - at 18 weeks I think you can still get one, did he suggest that? If not maybe he really isn't that worried.

Thanks Melissa,

Ugh, something else, huh? I've been reading up (surprise, surprise!) and an amnio can be done into the 24th week or so (according to What to Expect).

I'm sorry your appointment wasn't perfect like you wanted it to be. But I would try not to convince yourself that your little boy has Down's just from that one measurement. Like you said, the tech didn't even notice. It's good to be informed, but don't spend too much time on google, it often does more harm than good (in my experience, anyway). I hope you can spend the next 2 weeks enjoying your little boy!

Thanks to you all for your support! I do use this board for such things that I would never say IRL.
