Ladies,

I am starting to realize that this baby is probably not going to come out on it's own before Thursday.

Hi, Nicole. I can't answer your questions, Sweetie, (since I haven't been there yet) but just wanted to send big ((HUGS)) your way. I'm sorry you've been feeling so upset and scared. I know you're kind of a "natural gal" like I am, and it's hard to think about anything changing those plans.

However, I can say that a friend of mine (whose name is also Nicole!) had her baby boy in February after being induced. She was due Feb. 5, and she went to the doctor on Feb. 6 or 7 and they said she was already having contractions (she just didn't realize). I think her bp may have also been getting higher, so they just kept her and gave her some Pitocin to help get things moving.

Everything turned out just great! I don't think she ended up using any meds, and I think she recovered quickly from giving birth. I saw her about a month later and

Nicole, I too, do not have any experience with this stuff (yet!), but I also wanted to send a ton of hugs your way.

I don't have personal experience, but I really can't think of any of my pregnant friends who weren't either induced or scheduled for a c-section...seriously!

Hello Nicole, I know how you are feeling right now, so I'm sending calming vibes your way. It would be really nice if your little one would decide to show up before Thursday, but being induced really isn't bad at all. Good Luck and I can't wait to hear your birth story and find out what you are having. ((HUGS))

How far along were you when you were induced? I was induced 2 days before my Due date only because Ireland was a little on the big side.

Were you dialated/effaced at all before the induction? I was dilated at 2 but I'm not sure about how much I was effaced.

Did you need cervical dialation and induction?

i was induced with both of my dds. i loved it. i love walking into the hospital and being like lets have a baby today. with my first i was i think 3cm and partialy effaced. i didn't need anything for my cervix. it was also 2days before my edd. first they hooked me up to see if i was having any contractions. i was, but i wasn't feeling them. they got an iv started with pitocin. my doc came in, broke my water and said i could have an epidural when ever i wanted. so i did, i was too afraid of the pain. from the start of pitocin until i started pushing was 11 hours. i had 50min if pushing, my dd was face up instead of face down. not fun, but with a little help from vacume and forcepts she was out. (the problem was her not the induction)

with my 2nd dd i was induced also. the second is always so much easier. i was 1day past my first edd and nine days early from my adjusted edd.(i hate going to my edd) from start of pitocen to pushing was just under 6 hours. i had an epidural that only worked on one side. the doc had to come back and fix it. once it was fixed i felt nothing we turned on the parent trap and right before it ended i told the nurse i felt a pinpoint of pain in a wired spot. she checked me and her reaction "whoh there is the baby!!!" they called the doc who had to go through 3 school zones in just a few blocks. while the doc was comming they had me give a "practice push". i pushed once more as the doc was getting into the hospital, and once more when she sat down, and that was that. my doc was barely there to catch my baby.

i will always be induced, i am so afraid of not making it. especially with last time being 6hours from no contrax to baby falling out.

i wouldn't be scared everyone has their story. i love the comfort of the constant monitering, and no worrying.

good luck with your induction. i can't wait to hear the birth story.

I'm from the PAL playgroup and I popped over to see if my buddy had posted her birthstory yet and saw your post. I hope this helps some. Feel free to email me if you have other questions.

I was induced on my due date at 7am. My doc got there and broke my water at 7:30. I was already 4cm and 80% effaced.

I got the pit right away and total time from start to finish was 14 hours. I had 3 hours of pushing, but only because I had a lip that wouldn't go away and my doc had to massage it away and apparently I had done my keagels well because she had to stretch me there too. (not to scare you but I ended up with a big bulge outside of my vagina when it was over, but it does go back)

I didn't want an epidural, but ended up getting one at 11:30 because Connor was turned sideways and was pushing really hard on my rectum so I was staying too tense and wasn't dialating. I was not in pain, it was just a lot of pressure, like I had to go to the bathroom, and that doesn't help you relax. The epidural honestly didn't hurt, you just have to sit still and a nurse will help you. I did get nauseous shortly after, but they fixed it and I was fine. I did start dialating after I got it.

My dh was the only one there with me...well him and the dozen different students and nurses that stopped in. I had 1 nurse and 1 student in there the whole time watching the monitor and ocasionally other students would come in with their nurse and ask if they could stay for a few minutes. I was doing fine, so I didn't care and it kept me occupied since I had to stay in bed the whole time.

Recovery is a tough one. It depends on if you need stitches I think. I had a second degree tear inside. Use the squirt bottle

How far along were you when you were induced? 41 weeks 1 day

Were you dialated/effaced at all before the induction? Nope

Did you need cervical dialation and induction? If so, how long did it take to sufficiently dialate your cervix? Yes, it took about 12 hours (overnight)

How long did the labor last once they started the pitocin? Actually, I had started going into labor before the induction. I was having contractions for about 24 hours before they started the process. So I was in labor for about 40 hours!

Did you use any pain-meds? If so, what kind and when did you have them administered. Yes! Got the epi and it was wonderful. The only pain I felt were muscle aches and a headache.

Who did you have with you during the induction (ie. DH, mother, MIL, etc)? DH and mom. I hadn't planned on having mom but asked her to stay at the last minute.

How long did it take you to physically recover after the delivery? Ummm.. tough to say. It took probably a month to stop feeling and to not feel any pain at all. The pain is the worst on probably the 3rd or 4th day after delivery. But it's not unbearable, just uncomfortable. Baths help. They tell you not to take a bath but I did anyway.

Nicole I'm sending you so much love and hugs right now! You're going to be just fine and have a wonderful experience.

Call me! i sent you an email....
