Multiple D & C and Pregnancy

Okay I have never posted here before but I thought you ladies might be able to help me. I am from the EC July 2008 board:

Okay girls, I am going to ask my dr. about this but I wanted some BTDT experiences. I had my DD 4 years ago vaginally 3/2004. No complications. I then had a miscarriage at 12 weeks in 2005 and had a D & C in the dr. office-no complications. Then, in 2006, I had another m/c at about 16-17 weeks and had another D & C at the dr.'s office-horrible pain and terrible experience-this should have been done at the hospital! Later that night I started not feeling so great so I went to the ER-it turned out that during the D & C my uterus had been perforated (or torn) and some of the contents of my uterus were pushed out. I had endoscopic surgery the next morning to correct all of that. All my follow ups were fine and the dr. said the perforation would heal in weeks.

So I am wondering if my cervix has been compromised and is likely to dilate early because of the dilations for the D & C's?
Also, although, the endoscopic entries (there were three) were obviously smaller than a c-section, is my uterus more likely to rupture (like it sometimes does in a VBAC) because of those incisions?

Are there any other complications that I should be concerned about?

Thought some of you might have some experience or know someone who has and could provide some information?

Thanks!

First off....I am so sorry about your losses. As for your questions...I don't have answers regarding the perforated uterus but I did want to comment on the D&C thing. I've only had one D&C ....I read that mulitple cervical

Hello!
I only ever had 1 D&C and it was kind of weird how that one worked. I had lost the baby at 8 weeks and decided to bleed out naturally, but after bleeding went on for a couple months after that I had to have the D&C to remove some tissue that didn't come out on it's own. After that, I lost a pregnancy at 18 weeks and another at 22 weeks. Both due to PPROM and I had to actually labor with both of them, so no D&C's there. With the 22 weeker, the doctors discovered I had a weak cervix and put a cerclage in but I had complications after that. The doctors do not think the weak cervix is from the D&C that I had. A weak cervix can come from having things done like D&C's but they can also just happen. My next pregnancy was a wait and see type of thing as far as the weak cervix. I had started going to a new doctor and because of how things had been documented with my previous pregnancies, we weren't really sure if I actually had the weak cervix. Well, at 18 weeks it was obvious that I had it. The doctor was watching my cervix via u/s every 2 weeks and there was considerable shortening, so I had an emergency cerclage. I ended up going into PTL at 28 weeks and my DD was born (she's doing just GREAT tho). I am now pregnant again and due in 2 weeks.....absolutely NO problems with the weak cervix. I did not get a cerclage put in because we didn't know I was pregnant until I was 20 weeks (just way too busy with DD to realize it). The doctors do not know why the weak cervix did not come into play this time. So if I were you I'd talk to your doctor about your concerns with the cervix and ask that they just keep an eye on it just in case. It is a simple u/s every couple of weeks and in my opinion its better to be safe than sorry.

As for the question about the endoscopic entries compromising the uterus...if I read correctly, this was 2 years ago and I doubt they will be a problem. I have to have a c/s with this baby because my DD was a c/s and my due date is less than a year from the c/s so my uterus did not have time to completely heal making it dangerous to labor naturally. I was told my my OB that with a c/s they like it to be a year after the 1st before getting pregnant and trying a VBAC. I have also found, tho, that some OBs really REALLY do not like doing any kind of VBAC. Alot of women end up changing OBs because of this. Anyways, I'd also talk to your doc about this, but like I said I don't think it'll be a problem since your 2 years out from the surgeries and everything is probably all healed up and fine. Knowing that as part of your history might make the doctors a little more attentive to certain things when you go into labor tho. They will be watching for decels in baby's heartrate or any other small signs that something might be wrong.

I am sorry to hear about all the pain that you have gone through. I had two D&C’s before giving birth to my beautiful son and my doctor told me to now worry about the D &C’s causing any problems. If I were you I would worry more about your uterus. Have you talked to a high risk doctor?

I had one D&C and one LEEP, I was told things vary from woman to woman. I would go with what your Dr says is best for your situation. KUP
