Alright guys I have a quick question and would appreciate any imput. I have my appointment to get birth control this week. I am freeking out that they are going to do something crazy in that exam. I have already had annual's. I am just wondering if they do anything different for birth control. Any advice will set me at ease. Thank you so much in advance................

No, I think it will be just like your annual. I really cant think of anything that would be different.

They're going to do the same thing as in the annuals. The only thing I can see that may be different, is that YOU should ask questions about birth control. Even ask what types of side effect you MAY experience, etc.

Although, I HAVE had them check the back of my uterus randomly (which is somewhat routine in annuals). If you don't know what that means, let me know, I can explain. Otherwise, you've probably had that done in one of your annuals.

Oh yeah, they may ask YOU questions, but for the physical part, it should all be routine.

That's interesting -- I didn't even need an appointment to get birth control. When I went in for my pap last September, my doctor told me that if I was interested in going on the pill, patch, etc. anytime within the next year, I simply needed to call her office and ask for a prescription.

"When I went in for my pap last September, my doctor told me that if I was interested in going on the pill, patch, etc. anytime within the next year, I simply needed to call her office and ask for a prescription."

Where I am (Alberta, Canada) our healthcare will only pay for one pap per year, unless you've had abnormalities. Most doctors require you to have a yearly pap to prescribe hormonal birth control. So, if you've had the pap in the last year, it would make sense that the doctor would prescribe BCP without a further examination.
