my doc prescribed Loestrin 1/20, to try to see if it helps with my on-going breakthrough bleeding. I have only been on higher Estrogen pills-yasmin now, but before nordette, triphasal, OTC.

Just wondering if anyone is using Loestrin and what your thoughts are on it.

Also, since I am using a lower-estrogren pill, if i miss a pill, do i have to be more worried about PG vs. using a higher-estrogen pill and missing a pill?

I don't normally miss pills anyway, but i read somewhere that if you are on a lower hormone pill and you miss them, you are more at risk.

just wonderin'!

I'm on loestrin and have been since October with no problems at all. I was on OTC before as well and had horrible breakthrough bleeding and I haven't had it at all on loestrin. I don't know if you are at more of a risk if you miss a pill, hopefully another member can answer that for you...just try your best on remembering. If you miss a pill on any strength I'm sure there is always the risk if that is your only form of BC.

All around I think this is an awesome pill, for me at least-not all pills are great for every woman out there. The only side effects I have noticed are more headaches (not severe), and slight weight gain, yet you may be lucky enough to not have either.

i just started loestrin at the beginning of this month. so far, i guess it's ok. but i've actually been experiencing quite a bit of btb, now in my third week of active pills. i'm not due for my period until next week and i've been having brown discharge since this past saturday. also, pretty tender breasts! but from what i hear, this is all very normal. i'm going to wait to see how i feel after this first cycle and if i still have that bleeding, i might need a higher dose pill. i'd be curious to hear an answer about the risk of pregnancy with a lower-dose pill. though. it seems to me that with proper use, that should never be an issue but i'm interested to hear perspectives for sure. any thoughts, community leaders? :)

Judie,

thanks for your answer!

i have a question tho, you mentioned atrophic vaginitis. Is this something specific to Loestrin, or is it possible with any pill or ??

I posted here before about my problem, btb, and said i was on triphasil, OTC, and Nordette with all the same problems. I thought a lower estrogen pill might help, although my doc didn't really think so, she prescribed loestrin 1/20 anyway because right now i am taking Yasmin and it costs me twice as much as the loestrin generic will cost. I told her just give me any pill that has a generic, so she said i could try a lower estrogen one then.
