I have been taking ortho tri-cyclen since March of 2003. A few little side effects came up, but were easy to deal with (i.e. lacking lubrication during sex ->bought some lubricant!). But in november I got a yeast infection, went to the Dr. and got a perscription for the pill (diflucan?). Then about two weeks before my last period I got another one, and took the pill again. Then a week after my period I got it again! I was due for a perscription renewal for the pill, so I went to the Dr. She said some women tend to get more yeast infections while on the pill. This is not fun! I didn't have any prior to November (and I would have been on the pill for 9 months)... do some side effects of the pill pop up later after you've taken it for a while? Do other birth control methods (i.e. Depo) have this side effect too?
I have decided to keep on the pill for a while longer, but if I keep getting one every month its not worth paying for the meds (which are ridiculously expensive). And of course I will go talk to my doctor about options if the time comes, but I was interested in what the women here have to say. Thanks!

I have heard of ppl having more YI while on the pill. It can happen anytime. I was on the pill for years before I started having spotting.
If she didn't do any lab tests, i would ask her about that. It could be something else causing the problem.
If she is 100% sure it is a YI, i would ask if you can try a different pill, maybe with a different mix of hormones, and see if that helps. my doctor usually has sample packs of pills. Maybe yours can give you a few months of samples of a new one to try.
Good Luck!
I got a second opinion, and that doctor suggested I switch pills, that it was the sugars in the tri-cyclen brand. So I switched to Alesse and havent had one infection or leg cramp in the past 6 months that I've been on them!!!
Birth control pills can cause yeast infections, and chances are if you didnt get YIs before you went on the pill, and now your getting them all the time, it's gotta be because of the pill brand.
I had problems with yeast when I was taking Ortho Cyclen, but not any of the other pills I've taken or Nuvaring.
