I just started the pill two days ago. I realized after I set up the appointment that I was supposed to start my period a few days before the appointment, but my period didn't come. I'm really sexually active, usually once every or every-other day, but we use a condom. Should I still be worried about my period?

Hi, Kitteekatmeow, welcome!

You missed your period and your doc didn’t ask and you didn’t mention it to him/her? How late are you? Women can sometimes miss a period naturally, and stress or illness can delay the arrival of Aunt Flow. But no method of contraception is 100% effective except abstinence. I think if I were you and AF doesn’t show in the next few days I would test to see where you are. Be sure to continue to use condoms for STI protection, unless both of you have been tested and are clean. Right now it’s important that you use condoms as back-up for your pills for the entire first pack while you are learning to take them correctly and because, since you haven’t had a recent period, there is the possibility that you began your pills too late to prevent ovulation this cycle. Let us know how you are doing, ok?

Good luck

Thanks, Jill. I'm going to ask to get tested if it doesn't come this week. My doctor knew I was late, though, because after the appointment was made, I realized I was supposed to start the weekend before and called the office and they asked the doctor about it.
