Hi all,

I'm small peanut. I just ended a relationship recently and have been on the pill for 10 years. I get migraine headaches sometimes 3 times a month and other times I don't get them, it depends. I never had them prior to being on the pill that I remember.

My questions are: They say the pill can lower your sex drive but I've heard it can increase it. I remember once a friend who was a DOCTOR said to me, Peanut, why are you on the pill if you're not in a relationship, you must be horny all the time and that's torture. I said because I like knowing when I get my period, I like the lighter blood flow and if the mood strikes I am getting serious with someone it's double protection against pregnancy. Also before the pill, this was 10 years ago during my period I would get SEVERE cramps and if I tried to work out at the gym during that time I got really ill, felt nautious etc. I don't think I'm moody I think we all have good days, bad days and so so days so I have NO IDEA how that would effect me.

I also switched to ortho try cyclene lo which I thought was better for migraines and less hormones but from reading the post below from anther poster thinking of stopping the pill supposedly it's worse?

BC education 101 would be helful. Also, what is this orvoring? Is this like a diaphram? I've never used anything but oral contraceptives..what other choices do I have....

Thanks,

Peanut

Hi Peanut, welcome!

Different pills can affect different women in different ways so while I might love a particular pill it could give you terrible side effects. Choosing a pill can be a bit of trial and error. Your best bet is to talk with your doc and be guided by his or her experience. As for what other contraceptive choices are available take a look at

Before I stopped taking it nearly 2 years ago OTC nearly killed my libido. I feel so much more alive now that I’m cycling naturally again. If you have questions about specific methods please ask, we have members who have used most everything. I hope that you can find a method that works well for you.

Good luck

I just wanted to add that being on the pill LOWERS my sex drive, and I think that's the case for many women. When I was on Nordette I had almost none, then switched to Ortho Tri Cyclen, and I had more. But since going off the pill completely, my sex drive has gone through the roof!

Wow, I'm amazed. My ex tried to tell me that if I went off the pill my libido would go up. I enjoy O's nightly by myself or when in a relationship 4 times a week but I don't think I've ever been a 6-7 days a week....maybe the pill is holding me back. Interesting..thank you so much.
