Start date of nuvaring question

Hello. I'm new to the board. I have an appointment to go to Planned Parenthood to get on birth control on Wednesday. I was on Lo Ovral a few months ago, but the side effects were unbearable..especially the dryness I was experiencing. I have heard many good things about the ring.

So I have a question about the start date. I think I have read that you can begin anywhere from day 1 to day five of your period with the ring. Is this true? So I started my period Sunday and will get the ring Wednesday, which will be day 4. But what if my period has stopped by then? Is it still ok to put it in? Will I be protected?

My boyfriend is in California and I am in Nebraska. I am seeing him in about a month and should have started bc pills, but it is too late, so I figured the nuvaring would be the next best thing. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

you can actually have your start day the same as the pill or the patch. I am a sunday starter. Which is, the Sunday after my period I begin my birthcontrol. I have always started all birthcontrol this way and have never had problems. Aslo, I have been very happy "emotionally" with the Nuva Ring! Hope it works great for you also!

Yes, but I just started my period yesterday, which was Sunday...and have not had access to birth control to start on that day. And, I need to start something immediately. I cannot wait another month. That's why I asked about the ring and if it's ok if I start on the 4th day after I started my period...even if it the bleeding stopped.

Any hormonal birth control can be started within the first 7 days of starting your period. "Sunday Start" is the big hyped one - but what it really means is that any time in the seven days after your period starts, you can start the birth control. (Think of it this way, if your period started on Monday & you wanted to do the Sunday start, you'd be starting 7 days later.) Personally, I was never a "Sunday Start" in all the years I was on the pill, it didn't matter to me!!!!

This would be a good question for the doctor, but I don't see any reason why you couldn't start on Wednesday, four days after the start of your last period. This would apply to the ring, the patch, or the pill.

Good Luck!
