I have been itchy and irritated around my vaginal area for about a month now. at first i thought it was a yeast infection so i tried monistat. that didn't work. my doc prescribed lotrizone - an anti-fungal/anti-itch cream. that helped with the itching somewhat. i got my period last week and was really irritated the whole time. I felt like the flow was "burning" me. I had one or two days of feeling fine; now i am back to just being dry, itchy and irritated. no abnormal discharge, no smell, nothing.

i haven't changed soaps or anything like that.

any ideas? My doc didn't think it was a bacterial infection, but couldn't run any tests because i also have mid-cycle bleeding (this has been going on for years) and it happened to be at the same time i went to see her. i am supposed to go see her again tomorrow.

also I am in a Monogamous relationship.

I should also add, this happened to me once or twice before, docs couldn't find anything wrong, said i was probably just allergic to something. can you suddenly become allergic to soaps or stuff that you have used before?

I am on my 4th pack of Yasmin after switching from Nordette. Could it be related to the switch?

"can you suddenly become allergic to soaps or stuff that you have used before? "

You can develop a reaction to things over time. It is likely that you are having a *slight* reaction from the start, but it is SO slight that you can't even tell. With time & exposure, the levels of the irritant build up in your body & you start to have a problem. Make sure your soaps aren't perfumed, and that you don't use much in that area anyway. Make sure you use a gentle, non-perfumed laudry detergent (especially for your undies) & that your laundry is rinsed well enough. I used to LOVE scented stuff - candles, soaps, you name it. Now, such things can't be allowed in our house - I will start sneezing & getting nosebleeds!!!!!

Good Luck, I hope you find the problem. Allergic reactions suck!

i was thinking maybe the laundry detergent. it is scented, although I have used the same kind for years.....

i might try just not washing my undies in it and see what happens. i don't think it is really an infection. YI meds didn't help and none of the symptoms sound bacterially related.

I am in a monogamous relationship as well and I too was on Yasmin. I had the exact same thing you are referring to with the itching. Even when I switched pills, I had the same problem. Now I am off them alltogether and still have itching. I just bought summers eve intimate wash and I have been using that in the shower. It seems to provide some relief. Not sure what causes the itching but (not to sound gross) it looks like white peeling flakes (dry skin). I did read that it is a side effect from the pill though.

I had the same thing when I started Yasmin also. But my doctor said it was a yeast infection and after doing some research, I found out that yeast infections can be caused my hormonal fluctuations. Anyways, I stopped Yasmin and it went away. I am on another pill now and it has not happened to me since!

Hey, not to try to open a can of worms, but I found this board here and find it very interesting because I have constant recurring problems with burning and itching. check it out - u never know. I had never even heard of it until i saw it here and I will definately be asking my doc about it. I have had this problem before and after I was on any kind of pill, so mine is not related. Also maybe look it up on webmd.com to see if it sounds like your symptoms.
