NuvaRing to PATCH

I am going to be starting the Patch soon. I was on the NuvaRing and loved it, however I started getting UTI's a problem I have never had in my entire sexual history so I am going to just try out the patch for a month or two but my question is how bad are the side effects really? I had no side effects from the ring (except MAYBE the UTI's) and if I am going to have massive weight gain (more than 5lbs) then I would prefer to STOP having sex completly over any weight gain...please tell me your thoughts!

Hi Irish,

Well, I can't speak for all patch users because we're all a bit different - but I haven't noticed any negative side effects on it so far.

Did your doctor tell you your UTI are because of the Nuvaring, or did you just assume? The reason why I'm asking is because it doesn't make sense that the ring would do that since its in your vaginal canal and has no contact with you urinary opening. Just wondering...

BTW, I know that cranberry juice and lots of water really help. Give it a try. Hope you feel better.

Thanks for the tips to combat UTIs! My Doctor and I discussed it and she said their has been no studies showing that the NuvaRing causes UTI's but she did say that diaphrams (spelling?) cause UTIs, and that it would not surprise her if the ring did as well. I have been on the pill and I have also used just condoms and lube and never ever had any UTI's before the NuvaRing.

Hi Irish,

A diaphragm is usually much larger than the ring and a diaphragm that is too large for the wearer can press on the urethra and contribute to UTIs. I suppose, if you are a very small person, the ring if tucked into your pelvic notch could press on the urethra. I think only one other poster has asked about the ring and UTIs. My recollection is that if it does happen we haven’t heard from users about it until now. Let us know how you do, ok?

Good luck

We are all different... I'm 5'4", 99 lbs and wear an 80mm diaphragm... (about 30mm larger than the ring) so you might be very comfortable with NuvaRing inserted.

Good luck
