I've heard a lot about Yasmine just from this board alone, but the name doesn't ring a bell. Is this available everywhere (I'm in Canada)? Also, how does a prescription usually work - do you have to go out and get it filled every month? And if the first prescription is not right for me, after the three month suggested trial, can I just go to my regular doctor to get a different prescription, or do I have to speak to my gyno (hard to get an appt on short notice - this appt was made three months ago!)?
Oh and one last question, not related to BC, but it's about cysts. Not ovarian cysts...I don't remember the name of them, but I did lots of research and wrote it down somewhere, but can't seem to find it...starts with a B...(Betholyn?)..it's a very painful lump that is filled with fluid and appears on one side (you can guess where, lol), always in the same spot. I don't get it very often, but when I do, it stays for a few days, and from what I read, the doctor can't do anything for you unless it's there when you have an exam. My question, how am I supposed to get it looked at if it takes months for me to get an appt? I'd feel weird having my regular doctor look at it; the first time I did, it was gone by the time I saw him, and he was more embarrassed than I was!
Anyway, any replies would be appreciated...Sorry for the novel I just wrote!!
Thanks!

Hiya, glad we can help!
A prescription for birth control through a regular pharmacy in the US is just like every other prescription--unless the doctor writes the prescription otherwise, it's dispensed one month at a time.
I don't know how much it varies by province, but I can tell you my experience here in Alberta.
Most insurance companies will not reimburse you for more than 3 months of birth control on the same reciept. However, those reciepts don't have to be three months apart. You could pick up three months worth today, & three months worth next week, submit them both to your insurance company at the same time, & get reimbursed for all of it. I know there are a few insurance companies that don't limit you to three months at a time, but that is most normal.
I don't know how you girls in the states can stand only having one month's birth control in your hands at a time! I was always so paranoid, making sure I had *at least* one month's spare at a time! What if you dropped your package of pills in the toilet or something?!?!?!?! OK, yes, I said I was paranoid!
