If there is still a chance that you can have and want a family and therefore want an effective and reversible method of contraception, then Depo might be a good choice. However, the progestin in Depo can have some very harsh side effects including irregular bleeding for the first few months and weight gain. And, if you do have severe side effects there is no way to stop it immediately, it will take 3 months for the progestin to leave your body. There are women on Depo who are side effect free and they love it. See http://www.contraceptiononline.org/contrareport/article01.cfm?art=256 If your condition is permanent you might consider a tubal ligation or the much less invasive procedure to place Essure. Let us know how you're doing, ok?
Hi There... I'm totally new to this board and looking for advice myself but I read your post and wanted to say hi.. I also suffer from migrains.. my sister and mother do to.. Have you ever considered going to a chiropractor? You can even call your ins co and see if they cover them? Mine does and I get 12 visits a year. But I can tell you that my mom, sister and I all goto a chiropractor regularly and it helps keep the migrains at bay... I find that I need to go about every 2 to 3 months where my mom goes eveyr single month.. eveyrone is different but I really think if you try it you'll see an instant difference.. Sometimes I'll walk in w/ a migrain and it's gone by the time I leave his office. I now know when my body is out of line and when I need to go in. And BTW a good chiropractor doesn't make you come in when he says you need to... a good one will tell you to call when you think you need to be seen! And stay away from ones that make you undress... there is NOOOO reason to undress for a chiropractor! Call first and ask questions and you'll know if you want to be seen by that one or not! Just a little tip for you! ;)
That said.. I tried the Depo shot and was on it for 3 years.. I loved it but I did gain weight... 30lbs and I'm now working my butt off to get rid of it. I didn't notice till I finally went off the shot that I was hungry alot while on the Depo... I was told in the begining that it would happen but you forget. So it's really up to you if you'd like to try it.. other than the weight gain I loved being on the shot. HTH Chris
