Getting pregnant after Depo

I have been on Depo for over 3 years, but we are now ready to start ttc for our first baby! My next shot was supposed to be on March 5th, but I cancelled it last week...I was just so sure that I would see a normal period right around that time, but I've been doing research online, and a lot of what I've read says that it takes most couples 5 months or more just to get a normal period!

I've posted in the ttc boards, but thought I would try here too. For anyone thinking about going on Depo, I highly recommend it unless you want to have children within a year or two, then that is the only time I DON'T recommend it! I haven't had any problems, just my thigh muscle a little sore for a day or two when I sit down. Anyway, if anyone reading this has any info. or experiences trying to get pregnant, I would appreciate it! Thanks. ~Liz

I'm not trying to get pregnant, just back to ovulating normally. So far it has been a year since i stopped depo and I don't even have a normal period, let alone normal ovulation... i hope it doesn't take too much longer... the unpredictability of my periods really bothers me... i didn't see a period at all for the first 4 months after i was supposed to get my last shot.

Hi - I was on depo the first time for a year. Then I got off of it (didn't have a boyfriend anymore) and it took me 5-6 months to even spot. Then this last time I was on it for about 1 year and then I got off of it. I started taking the pill right away (I figured it would start my cycle faster - and it did) I got my period the next month. I took the pill for 3 months and then it took me 5 months after that to get pregnant. So actually we tried for 8 months after the shot. The pill did kind of regulate my periods, but they would only be for 1-4 days. Hey not complaining here!! I got pregnant anyway. Good luck.

The shot I skipped was due in June, I got my first period in October and got pregnant in December. Like you, I really liked Depo as a birth control option. Unfortunately, for medical reasons I can no longer take any birth control with hormones or I would have gone right back on Depo after my baby was born. Good luck!!
