Could this be due to Depo?

I've been on depo for 2 years now. My last shot was due mid-December and I didn't get it. I went in to see if it was possible to get it Tuesday and because of having unprotected sex the night before, they told me to wait 2 weeks and not have unprotected sex. Then I can go back in, take a pregnancy test and if it is negative, then I can get my shot. But that's not really the question.
One side effect of depo is weight gain. Well, I never really experienced a weight gain while on the shot. However, I weighed myself last week because I joined a gym and I needed to track progress. I was up 13 pounds from my weight in December. I figured it was due to stress (because the past couple months have been hell) so no problem. Normally, when I start working out, I drop 5-10 pounds pretty easy so I wasn't too worried. Well, I've been working out hard the past week and the scale hasn't moved. I know they say not to worry about the scale but it's odd that normally I can drop the first few pounds easy but now, it's not budging. I was wondering if this could be due to the shot. My boyfriend suggested it could be my body getting back to normal or something but I would think that while a side effect of depo is weight gain, that when it wears off you would drop weight.
Does anyone have any information that could help me?

If you didn't gain weigh while on Depo for 2 years I wouldn't think you gain since December is directly related. But, Coming off Depo your metabolism could have changed or because of the stress you have been under your eating habits might have changed enough to cause the gain. You might try keeping a food log for a few weeks to track what you are eating and see how the calories are adding up.
Good luck

I wish I had an answer for you since I am wondering the same thing myself! I had been on depo for a little over 2 years and never gained weight on it at all. I went off it last year and have gained 15 lbs. I work out alot, measure calories, carbs, and everything and am not able to lose the weight. I am wondering if the depo kept my weight off. I hope someone has an answer!

I can relate! I had lost 20lbs prior to going on depo and continued to lose while on it. I went on depo because I have really bad periods. After going off the weight has come back on despite diet and exercise. I eat better now than when I was on it! I have read that 70% of depo users gain weight, 20% lose and 10% experience no change in weight. I have also researched and found that some women DO in fact gain after stopping depo. It has something to do with the progestin. Supposedly progestin can increase appetite and in turn can increase muscle mass, leading to weight loss. Don't quote me though because I found it on the net! I have made an appointment with my obgyn for this Friday to find out. I have thought about going back on that or on Yasmin as I cannot deal with the awful pms, terrible cramping and 6 days of hell each month! :( Hopefully my dr will have some answers that I can share. :)
