Estrogen?

Hey, I just started the pill 3 weeks ago, and lately I've been on a complete "baby craze". I've been playing "super mom" and cleaning anything I see that's dirty, thinking of baby names and such, and've been having a lot of chocolate cravings. I know I'm not pregnant 'cause I'm spotting from the meds, but I've been having these urges for having a baby so much it's disrupting my life. I don't think birth-control is supposed to make you want what you're trying to prevent! lol I have a check-up w/ the doctor soon, and I wanted to know if I should try another type of birth control, or if this weird baby-craze can even be proven to be the birth control.

Hi kitteekatmeow,

I never had baby cravings when I was on OTC. I cycle naturally now and during my mid-cycle estrogen peak I have baby cravings. One of the reasons I first went on OCs was to get away from them. I found that when I was fertile I would think about not inserting my cervical cap for IC. That scared me to the point that I tried hormones. Since I’ve been off hormones for 23 cycles the baby cravings are back but my cap wearing regimen is different. I wear my cap continuously for 3 days, on the 4th day I remove, clean, reapply spermicide and reinsert… That way I’m always protected. When I’m fertile I sometimes still think about having babies but since I’m always protected the urges aren’t influencing me to the point of user failure with my contraceptive method. Talking with you doc about this is a good idea. If it’s a side effect of your pill it should disappear in about 3 cycles as your body adjusts to the hormones. Let us know what s/he says, ok?

Good luck
