hi everyone. i have a question for you. my boyfriend's in the army and has been gone to iraq the past 10 months, and is coming home in a couple months. so this reminds me that i need to start up on birth control again. when i was on it before i had problems with spotting, it was really bad when i was stressed. the doc's put me on ortho tri-cylcne (spelling??), and i'd always spot in the third week of active pills. i was wondering what kind of pills work best for everyone here? i need to get back on it soon, so any help would be wonderful. also i was also very good at taking my pills everyday, at the same time in the morning, so i dont think that was the problem with spotting.

Actually, the progestin in OTC increases in each of the 3 weeks: .180mg, .215mg and .250mg. I agree with Marryme that it may be the progestin in the 3rd week isn't enough to sustain your endometrium. I also agree about choosing a monophasic. I was on OTC, and if I ever go back on OCs I would choose one with the same dose in all the active pills.

Good luck

i take allesse 28(i think thats the right spelling. its close, i know that). i had spotting before with a different type of pill-the name escapes me right now-but with the allesse i havent had any. my sister takes orthotricyclene and she always felt sick when she would take it. she took it the same time every morning and it used to make her feel like she had to throw up-almost like morning sickness. the ortho is probably too strong for you-maybe the allesse will be better.

Thank you so much for your advice! I was hoping to tell the doctor I'd like to go on another type of pill, but didn't want to sound stupid when asking that.

Thanks for the homecoming good lucks, I'm excited to see him again after a year. I hope your brother makes it home safe and sound in April also. :)

How much does allesse cost you a month? I'm only 19, and I'm not sure if health insurance will cover it. Thanks for your advice, I'm hoping to get on something better for me, because having two weeks of either spotting or your period just plain stinks.

Thanks for your help. I did notice that each week was a different mg dose, and was wondering if that was screwing me up. I was on a generic birth control when I first went on the stuff, but I didn't want to be on generic stuff because I've heard it's not as effective, and I also spotted from that. So hopefully the suggestions you girls have give me will help. Thanks!!
