HI I have a question for those of you who know a lot on BC pills, and symptoms. I was married Sept. 14 2002, and I was on Ortho-Try Cyclen until December 2003, when my Doctor switched my pills because I was having some pains and he thought maybe it was my period. He also thought it wasn't right for women to bleed once a month, so he said bleeding three times a year is better :) So, since I started December I won't have my first period this year until April. OKay, when I was on my other BC I had no problems with them, but I was also having my period once a month. NOw, since I"m skipping it until four months, I've experienced something that's kinda scared me, and got me worried and confused all at the same time. Please help if you can. Last Thursday, so a week from Tomorrow, I was at work, and I all the sudden got this sharp pain in my lower left abdomen. I thought I was having what I had before, which was a cyst on my ovary, Doctor said not to worry about it because they happen to everyone and they aren't cancerious so the pain wwill go away with time. So I just walked off the pain, well that next morning I noticed some dried blood on my underware, itw as that dark blood. And than I didn't get anymore until Sunday night. I was going to the bath room and when I wipped I noticed red pinkish blood on the toilet paper. So I put on a liner, oh I should mention this also, I had just started a new package of BC pills that Tuesday (24th) before the pain I felt Thursday (27th). So if I were to be having my period's monthly, I would have been over that one for a week, starting two weeks here pretty soon. So come Monday morning I found some more dried dark blood, and when I wipped it was that dark bromw blood that you get when your period is ending or ended, the old after blood. I got that until today, when I felt like I was having my period again, and when I checked in the bathroom I had two dark red spots on my underware, and when I wipped it was mixed in with some brown blood again, and now it's just the brown blood. Can anyone tell me what this is, and why it is happeneing? I've never had this happen before, and I've never had problems with the BC pills. I've never missed taking a pill and having to double up the next pill, but I have missed taking pills up to the most 4 hours. But it hasn't become a terrible habbit, I think I've only done it about five times, but they were never right in a row. Some women say It's implantation bleeding, but I thought that only happened before you're expecting period, and DH and I haven't had sex lately, I think the last time was the 21st, and than after that I just didn't want it and still do not want it. Also some women say it's just breakthrough bleeding and I shouldn't worry about it cause it's just old blood that feels like it's it's turn to come out. And some others say it's an ectopic pregnancy and I should get to the hospital right away. But I'm not in any kind of terrible pain. I'll get little cramps here and there, nothing as bad as the first pain I got on Thursday when I noctied the blood the next day. Does anyone agree with these other ladies or have anything else to say?? The new BC pills I am taking now is Levora. Please advice....DH is going to California for work tomorrow and will be there for a week and a half. If it is pregnancy I would like to surprise him, but if it's not I need to know now so I can call the Doctor and get in, it will take a few weeks cause he's an OBGYN and I have only been to him once and that took me two months to get into him, he's a busy busy guy but he's really good and I don't want to go to a different doctor now. Thanks ladies for listening to me ramble.

The estrogen in your pills is causing the lining of your uterus (endrometrium) to grow. The progestin in your pills is keeping the lining there, rather than flowing out of your body in the form of a period. Once there is more lining than the progestin can sustain, you will bleed, regardless of whether you are still taking pills, or what. If everything is working perfectly, when you stop the pills for your placebo week, the drop in progestin is what triggers your period. You can bleed anytime if there is more lining in your uterus than the progestin in your body can support.
When women try to have periods less often than once a month, it seems to often take time for their bodies to get "used to" bleeding less often. Just because your doctor said this would work, doesn't mean it will for your body! Even though you're bleeding this time, doesn't mean it won't get better for you in the future. Our bodies are all different.
The spotting MAY continue until you take a week "off" the pills to have a period, or it may stop before then. If you can deal with what's happening, you might want to continue on the schedule of pill-taking that your doctor laid out. If it is getting too frustrating, you may want to talk to him about how to deal with things. One option is to allow your body a period (don't take pills for a week, like the fourth week of normal pills, or 4 times a year on pills like Seasonale), but I wouldn't reccomend doing that without your doctor's input.
Good Luck! I really doubt you're pregnant, your body just isn't quite co-operating with what you are trying to do (bleed less often). Hopefully it all sorts out soon.
It's not like I"m bleeding, I get that brownish dry blood most of the time. It's still the same today, and it's been going on for about a week and a day now. What should I do? Does anyone know when It will go away?

It's probably just that you're not getting enough hormones from the pill to keep you from bleeding.
