Birth Control after 30

My question for the day is this, I haven't been on any kind of birth control pill except for my partner to use condoms which is not a problem but I want to make sure I don't get pregnant, so I want to start using birth control pill method. The question, how will the pill affect me, now that I'm 35. I don't smoke, go to the gym, I'm fairly healthy. But do the risks outweigh the benefits?

I'm 35, and I've been on the pill for 11 years. My doctor has said that since I don't smoke and don't have any other major health problems, the pill is fairly safe for me for a number of years yet. After 35, and especially after 40, the risks of strokes and bllod clots does increase, but the total risk is so low that it is still very, very safe. The risks of childbirth are higher!

I'm 33...I was on the pill since I was 18--until 2001 (when we stopped to ttc our baby)....I was on several different pills throughout the years (ortho Novum 777 (21 and 28 day packs),allesse...Never had any bad side effects....The most recent pill I was on was the "mini" pill micronor...I did not like it at all...It did not cut down on the heaviness of the period or cramps like other bcpills can do...I'm currently using the Mirena IUD and absolutely love it....good luck!!!!

I had been on the pill for 20 years, except for 2 pregnancies. I quit taking it last Aug due to the fact I was having some unbearable side effects-particularly headaches. I have never felt better and my husband just had a vasectomy so I will be done with birth control altogether in a couple months. I do know that they make a couple pills that are used widely to relieve premenopause/menopause symptoms-Loestrin and Alesse. Maybe one of those would be good for you. Your dr would know best. Good luck and let us know how you do!
