Started patch today...moving already?

Hello again. I started the patch this morning and I like it so far. I took a shower and cleaned the area where I wanted to put it (my buttock) with some alcohol like my doc recommended. I waited for it to dry and was sure not to apply any lotion on or near my buttocks. I put the patch on according to the directions and pushed on it with my palm for 10 or so seconds. Then I ran my finger around the edges to make sure it was stuck all the way around. It's been about 5 hours since I applied it and when I went to check on it a little while ago, I noticed it had moved down a little bit. There was a dark, sticky area at the top, like when you take a bandaid off. Is this normal? Will this lessen its effectiveness? Has this happened to anyone else? I couldn't find anything about this on the Ortho Evra website.

Thanks!

Kristen

Hey there..

When I was on the patch I always had problems of it not staying put, sometimes the edges even came loose before it was time to take it off. As far as effectiveness I dont know but I do know that my patches never stayed on so thats why I got off of them. They became more on my mind then off my mind... Opposite of what the ad says! lol ...

Like an adhesive bandage, the patch will move around a little bit before it settles, and some of the adhesive will ooze out from under it (at least that's what we hear from patch users).

I agree. Mine did that. Exactly like yours. I don't think its so much that its moved as long as its all stuck in place so the hormoens get delivered to your skin.

just a little side note from my experience- the buttock is the worst place to put the patch if you want it to stay put. I have put it there once or twice and always by the end of the week it has a raised ridge down the middle and the edges are inevitably pulled up and riddled with lint and fuzzies. I think the only women that can effectively wear it on their abdomen have to have a tummy like the girl in the add. the slightest bit of belly chub makes the patch sit funny. the best places that i have found to put it are on my back/shoulderblade region and on my arms. the arms are a little bit less discreet, but when i put my patch there I generally get through the whole week with it stuck securely and very little or even no fuzzies. Another tip that I read from someone on here ( don't remember who!) is when you wear it down on your buttock to put it on in a diamond shape instead of putting it on straight. i tried that and it worked a little better- I still barely lasted the week though.
