My Mirena iud was put in on the sixth. I know that you have to wait 48hours before having intercourse (protected), but, how much longer do I HAVE to use another form of protection? I was under the impression that the protection would be immediate after having the device put in (not including the first 48 hours). Do I need to protect myself for a month, 3 months or what? Please let me know what you were told. I didnt find the website helpful in that aspect. Thank you, Mrs. Williams

I'm not an expert-you could always double check with your dr,but I've had the Mirena for about 8 months now (and love it) and was told that once it's "IN" it's effective.....

Thanks for the input everyone. I cant wait to "TRY IT OUT!!!" ;-) It is so helpful to have people give their opinion and share their experiences. Really helped me to make my decision. Keep sharing...I will contribute as well. Marietta.
