Super Long Period... scared Ortho Evra

Hi, I started OrthoEvra for the first time on 3/1. this is my first birth control other then condoms. 3/1 was also the first day of my period. I opted for the first 24 hour change day because my long distance love is coming up on 3/11 and well.... it would make life easier :) Anyway yesterday was change day and that went fine. Period was winding down. Today i have had to change tampons 3 times and im worried its starting over. Not to be graphic, but it is brown end of cycle blood, which usually means its done. Any advice? I want to be free and clear on thursday. should i douche the rest of it out? please respond ASAP!

Hi sanfranchica, welcome!

AF will probably be a bit different for the next several cycles as your body decides how to react to the hormones from your patch. If I were you I’d let AF finish up naturally. I don’t care for douches. They upset my natural vaginal ph. But some women like them, so I suppose you could give it a try. If you are still spotting on the 11th you might want to try using Instead. It’s a soft menstrual cup that catches your flow and you can have IC while it’s inserted. Instead is carried in the feminine hygiene sections of most pharmacies. See more info on their site http://www.softcup.com/

Good luck

Thank you for the quick response. I was mainly worried that it was starting over and i would have to deal with 2 sets of cramps in one month. Yes I have used Instead before, but to be honest, it will be our year anniversary and i havent seen him in a month and we are both monog and healthy and... well we were looking forward to "celebrating" free style for the first time. I guess that will just have to wait. These boards are great! thanks for the help. I tend to stress a lot about little health things, so you may see me around. Also... is it rude to ask him to pay for half of my patches, since they are to his benefit? They are $18 a month and that adds up on my little budget.

That works for me! DF pays for mine: Gyne visits, diaphragms, caps, spermicide... everything.

Good luck

ok it was completly gone yesterday night and today no problem, boyfriend gets here in 5 hours and suddenly its like day 4 again!!!!! i am freaking out. i know douche is bad, but if i douche (assuming this is breakthrough bleeding not period) will it "wash" away long enough to make his 6 hour drive worth it? he said that Instead is painful for him

At this point all you can do is try. And, dark towels and candle light might help too. Do you know for sure he minds swimming in the Red Sea? Or IC in the shower works well in these circumstances.

Good luck

I just wanted to chime in that sex in the shower or on dark towels works very well when you're still bleeding.

We also prefer to avoid the "heavy" days, but that doesn't mean we always do! If the spirit moves us, we do what we want. My husband finds the mess afterwards a bit unpleasant, but a shower helps tidy things up.

Don't think you can't have sex just because you haven't stopped bleeding.

Personally when i am ragging and i want sex especially if it's a long distance relationship red or dark towels works wonders. I don't think sex should have to be put off just because of a flow and if your man came this far to see you it shouldn't really matter... Do what you think is best but i just don't think it will hurt anyone or anything to have sex while flowing.

Nature was nice to me and i only got it once while he was here 1 out of 11 isnt bad :) although it came back as soon as he left and im still dealing with it, its totally light so im not worried or cramping, but has anyone else delt with the hell of a 3 week period? talk about annoying. im not giving up tho, because as this past weekend proved its WELLLLLLL worth it. i see him again on saturday for a whole week! oh and he told me he loved me for the first time. i couldnt be happier. thanks for the help and tips!
