Hi. I've always been told you should give three months for your body to adjust to the hormones in birth control. I personally only had the problem with nausea when I was on Trivora. I've been pretty lucky so far (knock on wood). The nausea side effect is miserable, though.

Have you tried that Nuvaring? I'm not an expert, but I think that is supposed to be real low hormone? Maybe you would do better on that?

I know there are also IUDs but I don't know a whole lot about them. And everyone but one person that I know that tried Depo had a hard time with it.

Hi Celena, welcome!

Any side effects are usually the worst during the first two to four cycles you are on a new pill, as you body adjusts to the hormones. There are a lot of different pills out there so hopefully there is one for you if you are interested in looking for it. Have you talked to your doc about a pill with a lower estrogen and different progestin? Many posters here like NuvaRing which has the lowest estrogen of any hormonal method in the U.S.

If you want to try something other than hormones a diaphragm or cervical cap might work well for you. Used correctly they can be as effective as condoms and preserve the sensitivity and mood since they can be inserted well before IC. If you want to know more about diaphragms or caps take a look at the FAQs on this Boards home page http://pages.ivillage.com/cl-judie_rae/id1.html or iVillage’s Birth Control A to Z http://www.ivillagehealth.com/features/birthcontrolaz/pages/0,12910,436256_438023,00.html or Planned Parent hood’s Your Contraceptive Choices http://www.plannedparenthood.org/bc/cchoices.html Post and let us know what you decide, ok?

I hope you find a method that works well for you.

I can't use BCP. I tried Tri-Phasal when it first came out and would get progressively

more nauseated after taking each day's pill, until I would vomit about 8 hrs later.

I felt like I had the flu all the time, couldn't do anything. It also made my

skin break out. I hate to say this, but when I finally did get pregnant, I became

EXTREMELY nauseated before I even KNEW I was pregnant. Basically, I became sick

pretty much the day after I missed my period. I was hospitalized for severe nausea

and vomiting and dehydration, and was bedridden, nauseous and vomiting for the first

3 months of my pregnancy. I lost 12 lbs. I was even taking the full amount allowed

of an anti-nausea drug that whole time. The nausea eased off by 4 months, but I did

have to stay on the medication, although a smaller dose, my entire pregnancy.

The way I felt when first pregnant was exactly the way I felt when on the Pill. My

skin also broke out. I had headaches. My guess is that you will probably be quite

sick when pregnant, because the hormone elevation is many times what is in the pill,

which, as you know, mimics early pregnancy. The first 3 months, the hormones keep

jumping up periodically. Once they evened out, I was much better, WITH the help of

the medication. The problem is, this medication is not allowed in the States, the

last I heard. I live in Canada, thank god. Even so, I could never face having

another baby...

Sorry to scare you, but it's better to be prepared!
