No Children with an IUD?

I have been reading about the other IUD users on here, and I am leaning toward this option. I have been on many different pills, and I really can not deal with the hormons any longer.

I am 26 with no childen, and my doctor is willing to insert the IUD. She did tell me that it is a bit riskier when you have not had a child because it may not stay in- BUT it is rare.

My question is, Do any ladies on here have or have had the IUD without having children first? And did it stay in properly?

thanks again, I know I have gotten some great feedback!

Hi --

My very first birth control was the Copper 7 when I was 20. Maybe because I had

no expectations at all about it, it didn't hurt having it put in, only mild cramping

afterward for an hour or two, no heavier periods, etc. I had no problem with using one

of these until I had one changed when I was about 27. It was expelled. THAT hurt a lot!

My doctor said it was because of not having had a baby, things were "too tight" down

there. I did try a few other things, none of which worked for me, and I got pregnant

twice, exactly a year apart. The first one I terminated, (that was a condom which

broke,) and with the second I had the baby, because I was in a different relationship and

wanted the baby. That one was due to a diaphragm, which I had used and taken care of

faithfully! Well, she's 16 now and the joy of my life.

ANYWAY, I've used an IUD every since then, with no problems. They are wonderful, in

my opinion. I don't know how old you are, but I guess all you can do is try. There

is one major caveat with an IUD: you really shouldn't have multiple sex partners, or be a serial monogamist, as it increases the chance of infection.

Yes, and yes. I have had my IUD for 13 months now, and I have never had kids.

Thank you for the helpful feedback. I am in a very serious commited relationship, so that is why this seemed to be the best option for me. I will continue to read about IUDs on here until the time comes for me to get it! thanks again

My fiance was an IUD baby...very stubborn already!!!

besides my future mother in law, I don't know anyone with a problem. My mom uses that too.

It's very rare indeed, i am o glad that my fiancee was born, he is a rare guy... the chances that it happens to you are rare.

The iud is a good choice and as another person mentioned, you must be in a monogamous relationship. As the iud does not protect against any std's, and may lead to pelvic inflammatory disease. I just got mine inserted two weeks ago and the first day was very uncomfortable. I have had light bleeding practically every day. I go back to my doctor in two weeks. He mentioned that the first month has spotting. So, I hope it will get better next month.

Good luck!
